Black Ops
« on: October 30, 2015, 08:52:19 PM »
Got to drill and roll a Black Ops for the first time today. It's not often I come immediately to ballreviews to talk about a ball, but I had to with this one.

Layout is 50 x 5 1/4 x 40.
Tilt: 10
Rotation: 70
Revs: 375-400
Speed- 16-16.5 on screen (down lane)
Pap: 4 1/2 right, 3/4 up.

On my house's heavyish volume THS, this ball is something else. There wasn't much for midlane movement, but I could see the ball reading the midlanes well. Almost like it was setting itself up for a big turn at the breakpoint. I wouldn't quite say it was skid-snappy, but it gave me a really hard arcing backend motion. Plenty of recovery when I got it outside too far or too quickly. Hit and carry was impressive.

At the point, the only criticism I could possibly come up with, is referring to it as a "heavy oil" ball. It could be I think, with the right surface and layout, but out of the box I would say it's closer to medium-medium/heavy. That's looking for something I don't like about it though. To be honest, it's an excellent ball in my mind, and I'm really excited about throwing it more.

As a bonus, it's probably the best looking all black bowling ball I've ever seen :)

Black Ops vs. the Break Down. Same covers and lower diff on the core in the Break Down. The biggest difference you will see from the two is the Black Ops is a big backending ball. Where as the Break Down has a very smooth and controlled backend. The Break Down is very drill friendly and will allow you to play next to or on the dry for way longer.

So the Black Ops is not a benchmark? That would be a little disappointing if so.

How does this compare to the Taboo Jet Black? I've been looking at this ball ever since I learned more about 900 Global and I can't miss out on a gem like this.
