Continuation of Crack, Crack, Crack!
« on: August 30, 2015, 09:42:10 PM »
I know some of you will not believe it, I can hardly believe it myself.  As you know a couple of weeks ago I reported that I went to my ball rack in my climate controlled room and found my 3rd Black Eagle cracked all the way around, along with my Black Eagle Pearl which was also cracked all the way around. So that made three Black Eagles and one Black Eagle Pearl cracked all the way around.
Well today I went to my ball rack in the same climate controlled room only to discover that my War Eagle was cracked from the mass bias to the index finger hole and my new Breakout was cracked all the way around the ball.
The tally to date is six 900 Global balls cracked. Note: last week I discovered my AMF
Green Mamba cracked at the bridge.  I am not that concerned as I have had numerous balls ( 900 Global, AMF, Storm/Roto Grip) crack at the bridge (except Motiv balls).
A 900 Global staff representative (Curt Dupree) wrote a sincere apology which was appreciated, but also stated in his posting that the balls were 2012 releases.
Well the War Eagle was a slightly a newer release (as was the Black Eagle Pearl), and the Breakdown is a 2/1/15 release.  So it seems that if there is a problem with the 900 Global balls cracking all the way around the ball it is continuing to date.
BTW all the 900 Global balls were sitting next to Track, Columbia 300, Storm/Roto Grip, and Motiv Balls of which none of these have cracked.
Tomorrow, I will be visiting my PSO to file a warranty claim for the Breakdown.  But, I am out of luck on the other five balls.
I stated in my previous post that I was completely done with 900 Global balls.  The latest two cracking have totally turned me 100% away from 900 Global/AMF.  I just cannot financially afford it.

@Lilpossum the Brunswick made cores just fall right out, they are shiny. Any of the others that I cracked the rest of the way the filler is bonded very well to the core.

My whole point is that while I was definitely pissed about them cracking, I moved on. I didnt feel the need to bad mouth any company or take it upon myself to "warn" the bowling ball forum on the internet of how poorly they are made. I got a new ball and kept bowling.

Ok thanks. The only ones I have ever seen crack are storm and rotogrips. I thought the cores would make good paper weights. It wasn't worth the effort to take them apart because they were bonded so well

I had an old Triton Elite pearl that I got in 98 that came out clean (at least that one lasted a long time before it cracked!), and those 3. All others were the same as what you had.

I have had balls of every brand crack. Yes I have had a lot of 900 balls crack, but every ball in my older arsenal was theirs.  I have a Disturbed sitting right next to a Train in my floor right now and both cracked.. I had a recent discussion with my Storm/RG rep and he told me a secret I had never heard. Store the balls in the original plastic bag they came in, not in open air. That it has been determined that moisture absorption will cause the cracking and this can just be humidity. Not sure yet if it works, but all my newer stuff is now stored in this manor since I will be out  of bowling for about 9 months due to surgery. Hopefully come next spring they are all in one piece.

Sounds like just another "theory" on why balls crack. I have two racks of balls in the open air, some crack and some don't.

I have a good idea on why a ball cracks, but I have seen nothing that convinces me as to what starts the process in the first place. I suspect it has a lot to do with variances in the manufacturing process.

Hello,

I have a thought.

3 of my bowling balls have cracked in the last 3 years or so.

All of them were............
Sitting on a rack.....rotated about every 3-4 weeks.
Cracked in the bridge area first.  2 bridges had the proper width (1/4th inch or more)
Sitting in a room between 74-80 degrees all day and night

None of my BB's have ever cracked in my bowling bag whether it was in the car. (120 degrees plus) or in my closet.  My thought is when the surface of the ball is sitting on a very tiny surface (ring) it is more susceptible to cracks.

Honestly, I don't think that's it. I have two ball racks in the open air and the balls sit on a ring. None of these cracked in three years, but I have had one crack sitting in my bag in the same room.

If Storm is right and its moisture, then the temperature has no affect. Humidity could actually be lower at higher temps than at a moderate temp like 75 degrees. Cooler the air the easier it might be to hold moisture in the air.  Putting in the bags is certainly worth a try. I have had balls crack on the floor, in bags and boxes.  I always thought that stronger covers stocks seemed to crack easier than weaker, but had a 20 plus year old Pirahna crack sitting in a box inside my house which is kept around 72 to 74 degrees. I have owned very few Brunswick so no experience on those but I have seen several newer Brunswick/DV8 sitting in the proshop floor cracked and some had so few games there wasn't even a track yet.

Hotter air holds more water mass than cooler air.

I've had 1 ball crack in the last 25 years,a No Mercy within the warranty period. I have to wonder if it's from some of these ball cleaner's being used. or maybe the ca glue used for slugs and inserts.
The harder I try the harder they fall
