Desert Ops
« on: January 17, 2017, 11:39:06 AM »
Just wanted to give you all my first thoughts on the Desert Ops. I drilled it pin above my bridge slightly over the middle finger with mass bias almost in my thumb hole. This is approximately a 5.25 inch pin off axis and mass bias at about 70 degrees. I don't use full numbers as I tend to use most of the same pin placements in my equipment. Before I give an idea of how it rolls, I want to state what reaction I got out of its predecessor the Break Down. The Break Down is drilled identical so I could give a comparison for you. When the lanes have a good bit of friction and I needed something smooth to blend out the lane, the Break Down was perfect. It has a unique motion for me that basically gave me an option for mostly the burn or fresh short patterns. The only hiccup was sometimes on wet/dry house shots, the ball would never recover in the oil and hit flat on miss hits (my only complaint.) So here is where the Desert Ops comes in. It has the same high rg, low diff Break LD core as the break down. The difference is the Desert Ops has the S70 pearl instead of the S70 solid. So far after throwing the Desert Ops for 10 games, I can already tell it is definitely way more usable. The ball is still pretty clean through the front like the break down, but it isn't allergic to the wet/dry as much. I know that sounds weird considering it's a shiny pearl but trust me when I say that. I don't think it will be a ball you can use on super super dry, a boost would be better, but the Desert Ops will be more usable on a variety of conditions. I would say in terms of stength for our shiny balls, I would go Inception Pearl, Truth Pearl, Black Ops, Drift, and Desert Ops. 900 global literally has an asymmetric and symmetric core for each condition which I just don't see any other manufacturer doing. If you have any questions, please let me know. I'm always here to help and will always answer anything honestly.

Makes sense. S70 solid is too smooth off the spot for a lower flaring core. The Pearl would help it bounce harder.

Hey Curt, why are you using my name in your sig line? 😂😂😂I in no way have endorsed McCorvey pros shops. 😛

All kidding aside, great review & analysis on the Desert Ops. I have found it to be much cleaner through the midlane than I had anticipated. It is a phenomenal ball for when the lanes burn up. I hope plenty of people give it a chance when it releases on Jan. 25th.

Too funny. Impending Doom the Desert Ops is exactly what I expected it to be. I really can't wait to hear from you and other bowlers who purchase it. I really see this as a ball that will fit a ton of different styles and be way more user friendly than the Break Down.

Which is better for burn and carry down?  Desert Ops or Drift?

Burn AND carrydown? Like fried heads and tight backends?

Better for burn, probably the Desert Ops considering just how clean the ball is. When you have hook in the front, but tight back ends, I generally go with stronger balls that will read the hook in the front and slow down better. When I use pearls or shinier covers, the tight back ends create bad over under.

Thanks for the reply!  900G said when the Drift came out "Use the Driftâ„¢ on medium to medium  dry lane conditions.
The latest Tour Preferred release the Drift will excel on medium to medium dry lane conditions as the lanes dictate a deeper move inside to open up entry angles."

I used my Desert Ops this past week in Las Vegas and I'll add the Desert Ops has a quicker response off friction and it is a little more overall ball compared to the Break Down. I primarily used mine after a game or 2, but also saw some using it on the fresh with success. I want to say the Drift has more midlane read, but the Desert Ops has a bit more backend motion. Overall I feel like the Desert Ops has the potential to be used more often where as the Break Down only saw use when the lanes were either short and light or burnt.

The Drift is great for broken down patterns. The Desert Ops is reginellis cleaner than the Drift. When talking about burn patterns the drift may go to much whereas the Desert Ops would still be able to get down lane better.

I love the color scheme on this ball but s70 cover for the burn? this ball looks like it backends fairly strong in some vids I've watched. anybody with a high rev rate roll this ball in the dirt and what did you see from it?
The harder I try the harder they fall

What is the most you would pay for this ball if its a SD less than 10 games? It's $40 for me to get a plug and re-slug.
