So on the desert ops, is the s70 cover not as strong as what I think it would be? I'm not familiar with their cover naming system

Think Storm's R2S, maybe slightly stronger. Their S74 covers have been pretty similar to R2X

S70 is going to be medium strong in terms of strength, depending on cover prep. Not something I would use on the burn, but not on a flood out of box.

WWRD 1/25/17

Desert Ops

COLOR: Burnt Orange/Gold
COVERSTOCK: S70â„¢ Pearl
CORE: Break LDâ„¢ Asymmetric
FINISH: 1500 Grit Polished
LANE CONDITION: Med/Dry to Dry Oil
REACTION: Medium Angular  Backend
WEIGHTS: 12-16 lbs.

Truth Pearl

COLOR: Carbon/Blue/Ruby
COVERSTOCK: S74Râ„¢ Pearl
CORE: Adaptor/Câ„¢ Symmetric
FINISH: 1500 Polished
LANE CONDITION: Medium Oil
REACTION: Long Big Backend
WEIGHTS: 12-16 lbs

So it's a pearl Break Down... Hmm.

yeah same number in the core but I'm guess a more responsive cover.  I think that S70 on the breakdown was a lower responsive version.  Personally I think the Desert Ops will be very good.

I'm going to compare a Break Down, And all 3 Ops for my br folk. Don't know if the budget will be able to handle an Inception Pearl though. Will be interesting to have 5 Break cores in my bag though.

The Desert Ops should be an interesting piece. The Break Down was a very specific reaction for pretty specific patterns. The patterns needed friction for the Break Down to work. It was very good in later blocks for me on sport patterns. House Shots needed hook for me to throw it, and when I could throw it, I definitely struck a bunch. We won't have the staff balls until after the 1st. Rumor has it that the Desert Ops will have a stronger cover than the Break Down which will be a great thing. We shall see once I get them and test them out.

So Curt, they toned down the S70 on the BD, or they're juicing up the cover on the Desert?

Now that's a great question. I'm thinking a could have been a bit of both. The Break Down fit a specific spot, but on some of the higher ratio house patterns, the Break Down sometimes had bad over under even when you had friction to the right. I'm thinking with this release the cover might have been tweaked to make sure the Desert Ops doesn't have that same over/under.

This is just me, but I wouldn't see the Down as a good choice on a high ratio house shot. High RG, low diff, strong cover wouldn't blend the pattern very well, imo. Not enough diff to miss into the shim and too much cover to play out in the dirt.

I was hoping the cover was going to be a little weaker.I really like the motion from my Black Ops.Here in the south dry means dry.We have dry houseshots for the House Hacks so they can shoot scores..I can usually use black ops maybe game and a half playing deep angles.Black Ops is my favorite asymmetric, usually can't throw strong asymmetrics being very rev dominant.Have thought about trying a Breakdown just not sure how weak it really is.

You are correct about the core numbers and what the Break Down showed, but as we all know, even sometimes on lower ratio house patterns, as they break down you will get over/under fairly quick in some instances. But on something short or medium that is tough, the Break Down was absolute money. The team pattern at Nationals hooked a bunch. The Break Down was a great choice to keep you angle closed. I still think the Desert Ops will be super clean, just thinking the pearl and maybe a slightly stronger cover will eliminate the over/under problem.

The Desert Ops should be a pretty big step below the Black Ops. I will definitely let you know once I drill it. The Break Down had the same cover as the Black Ops and is about an arrow weaker due to the core numbers. I expect about the same out of the Desert Ops just a different motion than the Break Down.
