New Equipment: Chemical X and Respect
« on: August 28, 2015, 08:14:06 AM »
Drilled up a Chemical X and a Respect over the past week.  Only have a little lane time with the X.  The cover comes dull...  The actual texture reminds me of the AMF Darkness.    Not sure whether it is an "additive" or particle, or just my imagination.  Have thrown it only a few games, but initial impressions are early rolling and smooth on the back end.  Stronger than I expected, simply based on the coverstock rating (S55).  I see this as a predictable rolling ball.  Should be great on tougher lane conditions and the fresh when backends are flying.

For me, I tend to leave a lot of corner pins when I get a ball that pushes too far down the lane and comes in behind the head pin.  Over several games with this ball, I've yet to leave any (knocking on wood, my head, and whatever else is around!).

I'm not a fan of yellow equipment.  I generally prefer to stay away from "loud" colors.  However, with the slate/black mixed in, it actually doesn't look too bad.  Still loud, but maybe tolerable.  It stands out on the rack.

I think this balk will struggle during transition, when you are forced deeper and need to play more angle through the heads.  I'm not sure it has enough recovery for this type of shot...

Haven't had a chance to throw the Respect yet.  Just based on the colors, I like it though.  Very sharp and good color combination.  Hoping this ball will be my go-to once lanes open up a bit and I can move it..

Will update after some more experience with them.

Good review. Just my .02 cents, if you are looking at a ball for transition, I would definitely recommend the Break Down. You will see a bit more backend move as it is an asymmetric and should allow you to continue to play where you left off with the Chemical X. Or a Boost Pearl would clear the heads better with a bit more backend with its shiny cover. Just a couple of options to look at if you were looking for another ball to fill that hole.

I had a chance to throw the respect this morning.  The ball has the pin under ring, CG out.  Hadn't put a weight hole in it yet.  The lanes were dry.. Left over from previous night of cosmic bowling.

The respect is easy to describe.  Length and backend.  The ball recovered from anywhere...granted there was enough friction for just about anything to recover.  The impressive part was that the Respect didn't seem to burn up.  The same line, my Chemical X struggled to turn the corner.  The Respect has no problems.

I threw a few shots crossing 23 at arrows, out to 8, 9, or 10, then the ball was dead flush and killed it.  If I got it wider (closer to 5), the ball actually hooked harder and would go high.  Even that deep (which is 5 boards deeper than I typically ever see) there wasn't a problem kicking out the corners.

I'm looking forward to trying it on a fresher condition with a little more head oil.  This one should make a fresh shot look like its wide open.  The only possible issue I can see is if the ball gets to the dry too quickly.  It could be the "over” reaction.

It's not in the Chemical X's DNA to recover strongly and turn the corner. It's much more of a predictable, control piece. My Respect is VERY strong, especially for a shiny-shelled ball.
