Ball spec's 15.3 3" pin 3 1/4" top & 15.2 3" pin 3 oz top.
My profile: speed 15-17mph, power stroker rt hand.

Lane surface, wood, overlays and AMF synthetic.

Drilling: Pin in ring finger, small wt hole, box finish & pin down 12o'clock, No hole, 2000 Abralon finish.

I was excited too see what a pearlized version of the NightHawk would do and...
This one's a keeper! Drilled up one with a favorite drilling of mine to keep it rolling on the smoother side - 3" pin, put the pin IN the ring finger, small weight hole. Ball really revs up hard and hard arc's on the back. Great ball for me on wet-dry. I can really give it some hand with medium speed and it rolls, hold and hits hard! Nice ball to swing the track with and when the lanes break I have a ton of room inside. Even though the ball is swirled it is easy to read the breakpoint which i feel is due to the constant roll this ball is in. Drilled another one pin down 12 o'clock and sanded it at 2000 Abralon and WOW did i get a totally different look, one for more oil and carrydown. This one revs up harder, i can use it in oil and it still has a very big continuation into the pins. I shot 300 with it in a qualifying round of a tourney playing inside at about 23. It gave me a lot of room right and carried extremely well for 4 games. Overall this one reminds me of a Vapor Zone but more rev and backend...Great bang for the buck!!

Big thanks to the boys down in San Antonio for sending a NightHawk Pearl to test out.

We got a 3-4" pin, so I laid it out the same as another all that I really liked, pin 4 1/2" from my PAP and 3 1/4" above the midline of my grip and the mass bias 3 3/4" from my PAP.  I tried this one on our heavy oil house shot after a 5 man per team men's league finished, and on the same pattern when it was fresh.

On the fresh shot, there was too much juice to find a great look with this ball.  I really had to be precise to get a consistent reaction, due to the volume of oil coupled with the high luster finish of the ball.  After hitting the bow-ties of my track with a scotch-brite, I found a more consistent reaction; still clean through the fronts, with a smooth arc on the backend.

On the broken down league pattern, this ball was fantastic.  I left it in box finish, as it gave me the coveted SKID/ROLL/HOOK type of ball reaction.  The easy length provided plenty of energy at the backend for explosive carry.  If you bowl league in a couple different centers, you have two excellent benchmark balls with the Heist for medium to heavier oil and the NightHawk Pearl medium to lighter oil.  Two winners to help get AMF back in the mainstream.

This ain't your big brother's Night Hawk Pearl of the late 90s.  This baby is back with an updated veener ready to cause some Flashing.........Lights! on the lanes.

This very sharp orb came to me with great specs which I layed out with an "assymetric flip" layout.  The pin is 1 1/2" from the VAL and 3 3/4" from the PAP.  The Mass Bias angle is 65 degrees for my PAP.

Rather than giving you a dead on breakdown of what I bowled on and where I threw the ball I think it's much more beneficial for me to use my expertise to tell you the strengths, weaknesses, and conditions where this ball would be a major player for you.

This ball comes at a very high gloss, but what you will notice first upon throwing it, is a great read of the midlane and strong revs in that 30-40ft range which most high gloss pearls will tend to overskid.  Combine that with my strong layout and you get some SICK backend recovery that rivals some of the other companies proclaimed backend monsters.  On fresh patterns, I can't see a style that will not benefit from the skid/rev/STRONG MOVE read of the Nighthawk Pearl.  I'd hate to compare it to another company's ball, but think Black Widow Pearl that is much more readable from the start and less sensitive to transition (but I guess that's a good thing huh?).

This ball is also very responsive of what you do to it at the bottom.  Hit up on it, watch it skiiiiid to the breakpoint and unleash a sharp change of direction down the lane for those who love to watch the big wheel.  For the guys who want strength with no suprises, exit clean and smooth and watch predictable skid/snap shot after shot with the ability to chase the oil in as it goes away.  I would advise stronger layouts with this ball to not only see the full potential of this beast, but to also get a great and versatile read on anything from the 37-41ft THS to the medium length PBA Experience patterns.  Don't let the name "Nighthawk Pearl" fool you into thinking this is a direct remake.  This ball is much stronger than the original and can bump heads with any top shelf pearl on the market reaction wise.  It's very rare that I drill a ball and right out of the box on a condition I haven't thrown it on yet I am automatically comfortable with the read, reaction, and adjustments I need to make just after a few shots.  That's an added treat from this ball.

My Video Mini-Review will give you a close of glimpse of what I got out of the ball and hopefully you can take what I got out of it and apply it to your own game with the help of your local professional ball driller.
