between soles, anyone done this?

I got caught between soles last weekend. the 8 was too stiff/sticky and the 10 was really slick and I thought about buying s9 soles for my sst 8. but what if I cut the soles I have 40/60 (s10/s8), I wonder if that would work  ::)

If you do, put the 8 towards the toe with the 10 as the back part.  I believe some national tour guys do something to this effect (albeit the soles may be different #'s).

I'll try it out and see how it feels. if it works, it'll save me $18 ;)

I have extra 8 and 10 soles that were given to me anyway if I mess up....

Just as an FYI the #9 sole (and the new odd numbered ones) usually put the higher numbered half (the more slippery one)  in the front and the lower numbered half (the sticky one) in the back. That the way my #9 and and my #11 soles are made.

I am not saying you should do this; just telling you which way Dexter seems to make them.

Before they came out with these odd numbered soles, what you plan on doing is what I have heard many people do. A friend tried this and it worked for him. (I don't recall which half he put in front.)

I have the #9 also, two of them. I had to cut them to size, so I cut one with the #10 part in front and one with the #8 part in front. It kinda makes a 9 3/8 and a 9 5/8. Just in case you wanted more options.

I was thinking about that too. slicks up front and grip towards the back. but it doesn't hurt to try both ways. when I cut them, I can test both options out - 8/10 or 10/8. But I think the 10/8 set up seems right.....

The SST9s soles by Dexter are curved at the intersection of the 8 and the 10.

Some of the pros that created their own solution pieced them together diagonally, I believe there is a video of Mika K. bowling that shows this homegrown solution.  Dexter then came out with their own versions.

I cut mine into three sections. Works great that way. No approach I can't tame !

Change the heel. If you have sst8 it should've had H3 on the push away foot, and H5 on the slide foot. Exchange the heels and you will probably be ok. Nothing monetary to lose.

I believe that Dexter bowling website had some type of chart for heel / sole combinations that gives you a number that equates to the slide length. I believe it's the heel plus sole number and the higher the number the more slide it should have.

Tuckin,

I have not found the method you suggested to actually work.  Some approaches seem to need stiffer lower number soles and others need slippery soles.  Some approaches need more brake others less.

It appears some of the pros think so too. 

I will say I often adjust close to a number by applying my brush either forward or for more slide or sideways for less slide.

The cleats in the 3g and the Linds Extra were sure an awesome concept.

I was never a fan of the 3G though because of the sole border with stitching around the edge.  This was always a constant that felt slipprier around the edge of the shoe than the inside sole.  I thought it was the stitching of the border.

The feeling I always had was of the shoe running away from me and then finally encountering the friction of the main sole.  And I like 8 and 9 soles, a goodly amount of slide.

My solution was to have my cobbler take away the border!  I actually really like the Dynarooz sport!  Once that border problem is fixed!

I havent "felt" that issue with them....I have really enjoyed them and they have held up great so far, the cleat system hasnt failed me once, I have always been able to find a good feel on any lane condition....I only use the felt, deer skin and teflon cleats in combination.....usually all felt, then deer skin where its "slippery" and teflon where its "sticky"....
