cheapest place to pre-order the 9s?
« on: August 02, 2015, 10:15:56 AM »
Anybody found a place with a better price than another for pre-order? Seems 189.99 is the norm.

If you can afford a Cayman S you can afford what I drive.

People don't buy M5's to take to the track.  People buy M5's because they can.

I guess the time I spent with my son's friend in his M5 at Willow Springs was an illusion. Trust me -- it wasn't the only M5 there.

The M5 is a nice car, but the twin turbos in the 335 or the 535 will lay waste to most cars and pile speeding tickets as well as anything on the road. And compared to an M5, you can keep 15-20K in your pocket. If pure speed is is the objective, a high end BMW motorcycle will keep an M5 in it's rear view mirrors. I've enjoyed that pleasure more than once.

I'm all about keeping more money available for those Dexter 9's. It's going to be one fine shoes.  :)

Blockbusterbowling.com has the SST 9's at $184.95 with free shipping.  In addition, they have a discount coupon for $5.00 (Code BBN5 good till 8/15/15).  The net cost is $179.95

Please be aware, the 9's are just going to be expensive no matter what you do. You can save a few bucks on purchase of the shoes, but they don't come with any extra soles and heels and that Sole is retailed to be anywhere from $30-45. Just making you aware.

I think the 9's are a good idea, but not at the expense of the customer. You're going to spend about an extra $2-300 for the complete set of soles and heels.

If these are now sold with MAP pricing, why not go crazy and do something like..... order from your pro shop instead of trying to save a nickel buying online? You get the added bonus of customer service if they fit different than expected or need replacing due to a defect.

Sales tax is one reason. In CA, that adds $18 to the price. Of course, depending on which online source I purchase from(I.E. Bowlers Paradise), I will still get charged California sales tax. However, if I buy through Buddies Pro Shop, no sales tax and in effect an $18 discount.

Not that I will be buying "The 9's"

In Pennsylvania, you still have to pay Sales Tax on Internet Purchases if not assessed at the time of purchase. It is reported on your income tax return as a Use Tax and added to your tax liability.  Maybe I am one of those rare people, but I actually report the use tax each year for online purchases I made that were not taxed but would have been if I purchased locally.

California has the same thing:  http://www.boe.ca.gov/ads/news06.htm

So trying to save having to pay sales tax is kind of a moot point if you have to pay it anyway.

You are the most honest man in the world.  I commend you for that.

I just ordered a pair of 9s through my proshop, because I can.  ;D

To Righty's point, they're not cheap, but few things of value are. They seem to fix the few minor warts present in the SST8s, which means the 9's could last as long as you want to keep them. When you amortize the cost of the 9's over the many years they should last, it's really not that much money.

Geez, the 9s are the roughly the cost of a ball. Yet they're almost guaranteed to be on your feet long after the last ball you bought (of many) gets tossed in the dump.

I agree with everything that has been stated here.  However, the opening question by lsf_21 was ......has anyone seen the SST9's cheaper that $189.95.  The answer is Yes!

The five dollar saving at Blockbuster is the nothing more than the tip you'd leave for a cheap meal at a coffee shop. And that doesn't account for the $5 you should probably pay for a fit guarantee.

Pay the MAP price through your pro shop and and keep the profit local. In most cases, it doesn't make sense to buy this shoe through the Internet.

Buy them where you choose,  its your damn money.  Waiting for the reviews.

Well Kid, that was illuminating. It's always an individuals choice to buy where they choose. But depending on the situation, some choices are smarter than others.

I'll try to give a fair review when I get them.

Considering your pov for buy local it's likely going to fall on deaf ears.

If they don't step up on the comfort level they are losing touch with bowlers. As an owner of many dexters over the years when I tried on my first pair of non dexters and thought I discovered comfort never seen in bowling shoes I got pissed for spending  the $$$$ I have for very sub par comfort that's unacceptable when paying that kind of money for a quality show.

If you want them for $184.95 you should order quick.  I would bet Blockbuster will be getting a letter about the price.

In the case of the 9s, if local costs the same as the internet, why would that fall on deaf ears? Logically, it makes no sense to screw your local guy of a sale if it doesn't hurt you personally. Maybe I'm missing something on that…..

As for comfort, that's subjective. Dexter's continued dominance of the high end shoe market isn't going to end because a couple of other shoes might be a little more comfortable out of the box.

What could hurt Dexter moving forward is the overall cost of the 9s. If Righty is correct and soles end up costing $30-$45 a pop, that will piss a lot of bowlers off. I'm not happy that I probably won't be able to use the shoes out of the box, and have to buy additional soles/heels for the 9s to be usable. I think Dexter is making a big marketing mistake not including at least a couple additional sole/heel combinations like they used to.
