Dexter shoes velcro?
« on: October 09, 2009, 07:36:26 AM »
I'm looking for the velcro that Dexter uses on there interchangeable shoes. I'm tired of there shoes lasting 5 months then falling apart. I like there soles and heels but hate the quality of the shoe. Anyone know if any style velcro will work? I have a good shoe maker 2 chnage my sneakers into bowling shoes but can't do the interchangeable style. I'm out near Chicago if anyone knows someone who can do this.

Are you sure its the velcro on the shoes wearing out?
Or the fuzzy surface on the pads?

I think he is tired of the shoe in general falling apart.. so he wants to find the velcro so he can use it on another pair of shoes.

anyway.. it is industial strength Velcro or Velcro type fastener.  This has a shorter stronger hook and a shorter nap on the loop part.  It holds tighter and doesn''t wiggle or slip as much as the standard old school velcro..

problem is I could never find anyplace to by large sized quantities of it.  The largest I have found is 2 inch by 3 inch pieces.. I think they have a 3 x 4 that you find.. Go to any fabric store or an apolstry shop might be able to get some for you. The shoe maker should be able to have a source as well I would think..

so you could by a bunch of the small pieces and put them together.. I would think if you could find a larger size it would be better.

The velcro is not failing its the shoe. I drag my right toe and I have 2 send shoes back 4 warranty ever 5-6 months. Dexter have me hard time I sent them back so that's why I'm looking 4 the velcro so I can do up a pair of high tops 4 support plus rubber toe

What style of dexter's are you wearing?
If it's your push off foot and your wearing the older style SST5's.
A shoe repair store could just replace that toe piece.
I've had that done years ago on a pair of Lind's before I switched to SST5's.
Now I just replace my 5's every 2 years.

just make sure you use a shoe that has a non-marking sole and one that won't leave  rubber residue on the lanes..

I do the same thing. I had a shoe repair guy belt sand the front part of the sole on the push off foot and glue in a nice piece of leather (like the Linds do) It now does not wear out.

When I had it done it was with some goodyear nonmarking rubber.
Had it done a few times before I wore out the stitching holes in the sole of the shoe.
That's when I switched to Dexter's.
