Have tour ultras, looking to go to Dexters...
« on: June 22, 2008, 06:02:59 PM »
I have a pair of tour ultras, but I'm not a big fan of them. Looking to start wearing either SST7's or SST8's. I wear 10's in the tour ultras, what would be the size in Dexters?? Thanks in advance!!

Why do you want to get rid of the Tour Ultra's? I can understand if they don't fit, but IMHO these shoes are and have been the best on the market since they came out. I bought 2 pairs of the TU's through the PBA and have had them since they were first introduced under the ABS brand. I wear them nearly everyday and they are still in great shape. If I wore size 10 I would make you an offer. I wore Dexter's before my TU's and I was lucky to get through a season before they wore out. Hopefully their quality control has improved since then.

I wouldn't be so quick to slam the Dexters.  As for them being "the best on the market"..???.. that's a matter of opinion.  And opinions, like certain waste disposal orafices, are quite common.

I've had my SST6 LX's for over two years and well in excess of 450 games and they look and perform as fantastic as they did when they were brand new.  This is NOT, I repeat NOT, a knock on the TU's.  Just my own experience with the Dexters.

Dexter is the only way to go in my opinion.  I have a pair of SST 5's that are 5 yrs. old and still going strong.  Not knocking any other brand, but if it's not broke, don't fix it.

The size should be about the same. The Dexters will feel heavier and probably feel a little slower on the approach if you can understand that. Some people will claim a bit wider but I am not one. I have 6Lx's and TU's and wear the Dex's more but use both depending on what houses i hit and different approaches. I haven't seen the 8's but steered clear of the 7's as they got some bad press and to me were ugly.

Are we running hoops in these shoes? LOL Anyways, for me, the TU's are a flatter shoe and I like my shoe to have some elevation. And for both me and my other half, we both complained they either slid to much or with a pad change did not slide at all.

I have the Tour Ultras and Dexter SST6LX's.  I much prefer the Tour Ultras.  I cannot seem to get a consistent slide with the Dexters.  I used the Dexters in tournaments the last two weekends due to the Dynorooz Tour Ultras no longer being allowed in competition.  My new 3G Tour Ultras are on order and I cannot wait until they arrive and I can stop using the Dexters.

I also own both and the sst5's also and every single heel and sole for all three and I have problems getting a consistent slide from the Tour Ultras, they are comfortable and all but if I head out to another house or a tournament the sst6lx's get the nod for now. It seems I have the problems on the stickier synthetic approach's rather than my league house's wood, I have used the dexter soles on the 3G's and that helped, next will be to modify the dexter heels to fit. So I guess it is just like balls not all will match up with one brand all the time.

OK, I thought it was just me. When I use my TUs I am having trouble finding the right slide pad for when I bowl on synthetics. When going to other houses I have to call the house to see if they have wood or synthetic approaches. If they have synthetic I take my Dexter SST6 LX shoes. Another problem I am having with the TUs is the toe cap. It keeps tearing off. I sent it in to 900 global for them to look at because I thought the shoe might have been defective. A new cap was put on and they sent the shoe back. The first time using the shoe the new cap was tearing off. I took the shoe to a shoe repair shop and they tried to glue the toe cap down again. I have not tried the TUs since but I probably will soon. I just hope that the cap holds tight. I love the way the TUs fit and feel and I really like the equipment. I love the Break line of bowling balls and I just picked up a Creature so I dont want to sound like I am knocking G3 because I am not. I will continue to buy G3 equipment because it is so good and matches up with my style.

I have no clue about the slide of the ultras personally, but i got mine in last night, & theyre going back today, without ever touching the lanes.

I tried them on, felt ok, then i started walking in them for a few minutes.  These things feel like dress shoes, theyre hard, flat, no give, no cushion.....its ridiculous.  On top of this, the back, inside of the shoes is leather/vinyl, thus making my heel slide up & down as i walk.

Maybe im the minority, but i think tour ultras feel like crap.   Ill be getting SST8's

I'm shocked you don't like the Tour Ultra's.

I wore a size 10 in Tour Ultra's and SST 7's.

If you are right handed, I'd recommend the SST 6 SE.  If they made that shoe for lefty's, I'd still be wearing Dexters!

I have a pair of SST5s which have lasted about 7-8 years so far with no signs of quitting.

People who have had problems with Dexter's shoes, esp. longevity, is this the newer shoes just not being as well made?
