I was taken out by a pair of Dexters!
« on: June 19, 2008, 11:34:22 PM »
I've used Dexters for years and have never had a problem with any of the numerous pairs I've owned.

This past weekend at our state tournament, I throw a ball of practice and decide I need a bit more brake.  I go back to the bag and put the Ultra Brakz #2 on.  I walked all over it and pushed it down as I usually would to make sure the heel was secure.  I grab my ball and I'm off to the line for the second ball of practice.  I started into my slide and MY HEEL PEELED OFF!  That's right...peeled off from front to back.  DOWN GOES HTOWN!  DOWN GOES HTOWN!  All 6'3" 300 lbs of htownstaff hit the deck in the form of a split.  I am now dealing with a nasty bruise on my left hip and fluid which will be removed from my right knee today.  Upon further investigation of the heel which was fairly new, the inside front corner doesn't want to stick.  All other heels stick perfectly fine.

Anyone else having this problem?  This little fall might be enough to send me back to Global...even though I hated my Tour Ultras (too narrow and heels & soles just weren't durable)...perhaps we'll give etonic a try or roll back to Linds.

Nice thing to have interchangeables...but apparently risky if something isn't right.

Since I had no problems with my previous 6 LX, I'm going to break out the new pair.  I love the look of the Anniversary Limited SST's, but I'm not about to fall on my arse again.

These things sometimes have dirt in the Velcro or old age etc.

There is no doubt that all of these brands have occassional adhesion problems.

There is a possibility that they may have a user limit of 6'2" and 260 pounds...over that it may be safer to use non adjustable shoes!

Do you look anything like Michelle Wie doing a split on a balance beam?

No grace in my gymnastics lefty.
As for adhesion issues.  I've never had them until this one pair of shoes.  I'm sure we'll move on and things will be ok.  I'd hate the thought of going back to a pair of Linds.

As for size limits on the shoes...if they did that, shoe sales would be cut by 2/3.

I have seen two guys have problems with the heels on Dexter's and they were of the larger build persuasion! I've never had any trouble with them only that they didn't last as long as my 3G/Dyno's or Etonic's. My Etonic Dress are really nice, but they don't have a interchangeable heel. Good luck

2/3 of the bowlers over 260?

We are bigger than I thought!

REgards,

PS does one of the Lopez brothers know what Michelle Wie would look like in the split position on the balance beam?  They are  6 foot 11 would one of you other guys ask them?

Dang, Bro! Hope you're ok. Sounds like you were within a half inch of bruising your stones...

I have the ABS ultras and don't like the heels much...too soft. The toe cap on the non slide shoe wore out in less than 3 months and now it flops of when I'm trying to push into my slide from the power step. I peeled off the velcro today and used contact cement. DARN THING WILL STAY PUT NOW!

Otherwise they are great comfortable shoes. I was considering going to the Dexters next time. Just goes to show that nothing is perfect.

Glad to hear that your were not seriously injured.  There is a stress limit
on almost everything.  Maybe you should consider this a warning and do some-
thing to get yourself into better physical condition.  It would probably
help in many ways.
