SST8 or 3g
« on: December 03, 2008, 12:44:25 PM »
quick question i want a new pair of bowling shoes and i am planning on ordering them sometime on sunday.  I will go top of the line unless some people suggest otherwise but i currently bought my sst7's two or 2.5 years ago and their kinda wearing out and their also just not as great as i had hoped the soles overside and have fallen apart and when i adjust from 4 to 2 on the slide i just completely stop no good in between.  I bowl in about 4-8 tournaments a year and 2 leagues year round just want some peoples opinion.  Has had an arsenal question was thinking of goin

Black widow (original)
Raw hammer anger
The sauce
Raw hammer Psycho / or red cherry vibe
Gamebreaker
Plastic

I currently have the breaker, plastic, anger and widow but wanted some opinions on anothter two balls i prefer ebo or hammer but always open to suggestions... thx

IMHO -

If you're going to houses that you don't bowl at frequently and had to buy a replacement sole or heel for either a Dexter or a G3 shoe most shops I'm familiar with usually have Dexter replacement heels and soles.  That isn't to say there aren't shops with ABS/Dyno/G3 stuff as well, I just don't see those as often as Dexter stuff.

If you have ever considered switching hands the SST8's are the only shoes, to my knowledge, on the market that let a bowler switch slide/traction soles between the left and right shoes.  A guy I'm currently bowling with has them for that specific reason.

On the other hand, I've heard great things about the G3 shoes.  Unfortunately no one in my local area stocks them, so I can't personally try them for size and usability.

the 3G tour ultra is the best bowling shoe available. the uppers are made from kangaroo leather which is both lighter and stronger than the cowhide used by the other companies. because of this break-in time is minimal. with 6 slide soles and 6 heels available you will be able to fine tune the amount of slide you need. the push-off shoe features a kevlar rubber traction sole and toe cap for great traction. and finally, the quality and construction of the shoe is very high.

i had a problem with the ring around the slide coming undone from the way i drag my toe... very comfy shoe but just didnt hold up well for me.. sst7 are much better for me with the toecap and i like the slide dexter gives me more.. really a personal opinion.

i had a problem with my tour ultras sliding to far.. i hate to slide but that was just me...seemed that the slides wore out fast but then again i seem to be one of the few people that had that problem.

You are not alone. I had this problem as well. Had Dynothane Tour Ultras and they held up but I couldn't get the slides right. I just picked up the SST8's and they are the best shoe that I have ever had. I also like the width on the SST8's much, much better than on the Ultras and the SST8's are just as comfortable and stable at the line. I have to also say that I have had Dexter Burgundy SST6's and the SST5's previous to the Ultras and I have never had a problem with Dexters wearing out on me. The only problem that I had was with the toe cap on the slide/plant shoe but that is no longer an issue with the Dexters.

I have a pair of the Dynothane Tour Ultras (got them in Jan 2002)and Dynaroos Sport Ultras (Oct 2005).  Both are still going strong - I just wanted different colors.  If you haven't tried them, they are very comfortable, but very light.  If you are used to the weight of the Dexters, it will take some time for you to get used to them.  Unless they have changed accessories with the 3G Tour Ultras, they should come with cleats so you can experiment to get the desired slide.  Your pro shop operator should be able to order the cleats for you if they don't come with them.  Hope this helps.

I bought my SST8's as soon as they came onto our proshop and i couldn't be more satisfied with them i had a pair of Dynoroos before them and the kevlar toe wore out on me and the new sst8's have a leather caped toe that doesn't even show signs of wear sure they are a pretty penny but the leather is just as soft and plush but i totally would go with the SST8's no doubt
