Team Brunswick Shoes
« on: August 05, 2017, 04:00:42 PM »
Hello all,
Has anybody used the new Team Brunswick high performance shoes? I am impressed by how much you get in the box for the money - 5 soles, 4 heels, accessories - and wanted your thoughts on comfort, fit, etc. I especially like that the shoes are made RH or LH as I don't like the thought of velcro soles/heels on my pushaway shoe.

What you like, rubber sole on the pushaway, non-slide shoe, I hate.  I shuffle and can't use rubber, especially a fixed rubber sole on the non-slide shoe. I use a teflon-attached sole on my non-slide and have no problem with it. On my Brunswick TPU-X and Dexter 8s, I use a #6 or #4 sole on my pushaway sole; I've had no problems for the past 4 years.

Being a toe dragger, the change to a fixed traction sole on the non slide shoe is better. My TPU X's are "flapping" right now because the Velcro has worn down. I've had nothing but issues once it started to flap. I've glued the traction sole several times just to remedy the problem. I eventually went back to my SST 6's. I have pre-ordered the new Team Brunswick shoes, I'm excited to use them.

Do we know what type of system the heel attaches with?  The TPU-X used the T-bar system.  I wonder if the soles/heels could be used interchangeably between the two.  I haven't looked much and don't "need" spares, but the combination I use are hard to find.

Strider, I don't know the answer to that. Can you tell just by looking at the pictures of these components? Buddies is selling the shoes and has pictures of the heels and soles.

Used them for first time last week. I was quite impressed with how nice they felt right out of the box. Comfort wise I would say definitely better than my 9s, but not quite up to par with the TPU-X as I would still say TPU-X is most comfy shoe I've ever worn. That being said, I never felt the performance was quite there with the TPU. I have all 3 colors and blew through the right toe (even putting tape and such on to protect it) on the first 2 rather quickly since I drag quite a bit and held off on using 3rd pair to avoid the same problem. So for me, the fixed traction sole and solid toe is sooooo nice to have again. The insoles are ok, I tend to get my own anyways, so I really didn't pay too much attention. I will say the leather upper definitely has a nice feel when I first put them on. One thing I did notice that I was really fond of, is they have a very wide platform on the sole. I have them in wide width, but also had others in wide width and I felt like these had a much better platform for balance. It kind of surprised me to be honest. For the price (around $149), I think these shoes are by far going to be the best bang for your buck for top tier performance shoes. 5 soles and 4 heels in the box too! Also, the new Rampage shoe from Brunswick which offers interchangeable slide soles (not heel) is showing pricing around $79 online. Another shoe that I think will be very good option for bowlers who want some versatility without spending a lot.

Bowler101, thanks a ton for the info! How is the sizing compared to your Dexters? I was planning to order the same size as my Dexters.

They still make the TPUs. They are just no longer through Brunswick. They are now licensed to Hammer. KR Strikeforce actually makes them. I believe they are also licensed to Pyramid Bowling.

I got three years out of my TPU-X shoes, and the only problem I've had is the inner fabric around my heel is worn out.
I have a pair of the new shoes ordered that should arrive next week.  So far I've heard good things, but will report more as I start to wear them.

Everybody forgets KR STRIKEFORCE made the TPU for Brunswick. They still make the shoe under the KR brand name. Its much cheaper than the Hammers ridiculous price.Maybe not quite as appealing but much cheaper. They are called The Raptor. http://www.krstrikeforce.com/products/Mens-Raptor
