Lefty lofting the right gutter...... sheez...
« on: September 10, 2017, 12:43:47 AM »
Fast forward to about 3:15 or so.  Both guys actually lofting over the gutter.

I think Wesley was throwing only a 14 lb. ball by the sound of it.  Still he's able to get that thing driving through the pins pretty hard.  Fun to watch.

Thankfully for the rest of us, scores are based on how many pins we knock down, not how many boards over the gutter cap ball goes.

He's also lofting past the arrows on many shots. I've bowled at that house and can attest to the fact that those lanes hook a ton.

In the May 2017 issue of BJI, they had an article about how candlepins has the lob line ten feet past the foul line and discuss if that should be applied to ten pin bowling.  They said the Teen Masters in July instituted a rule with the penalty of zero pins for the frame that any ball is lofted past the arrows.

While many of you may see the point of this, as an old guy, I just have to say:

 THAT AIN'T BOWLING.

Call it what you want to. Pitching, hurling, hurtling, throwing.......

Lots of descriptive adjectives to describe that activity. Bowling not on the list.

Where and when I learned to bowl, you would have been asked to leave if you did that.

Actually, MORE than asked, probably escorted off the premises.

But, now they call it bowling? Normal? Standard Operating Procedure?

 I call it sad.   :'(

 And ridiculous.

Also agreed. That's not bowling, shows no skill, and does nothing but damage lanes.

Higher number of games on "patterns" that make second arrow to the gutter out of bounds and force bowlers to the middle of the lane will lead to these results.

They figured out a way to continue to score where we continuously read on here about bowlers needing a "dry lane" ball to stay on second arrow for 3 games of league.

Final score 269-255 one righty, one lefty. I'd say they figured it out, but apparently they did it wrong.

Never said they didn't "figure it out".

 Said they weren't bowling.

Whatever it is that they were doing, they did it reasonably well. Scored well too.

 But it was NOT bowling.

Hurling, tossing, throwing, hurtling, pitching, banging, swinging, whatever.

 NOT bowling.

NOT bowling

What delivery is required for it to be defined as bowling?

As a traditional style bowler, I wonder what it is that separates myself from these guys.

Ok grandpa......shows no skill? I bet you can't do it. You old, get off my lawn, bitter bastards are something else. It's part of the modern game and since you can't do it, it's not bowling.

 No specific delivery required.

It isn't anything to do with either of their deliveries.

It isn't what they did, it's that they had to do it.

 I can do it.

Have no problem doing it. Might beat you doing it.

Just think it is stupid to HAVE to do it.

 Still think it isn't bowling.

Don't know what it is though.

Can't say that i totally disagree with juggs.

It definitely was not Wesley's best performance....I feel he was mimicking the righty.

The righty looked like a normal bowler just playing what the lanes gave him, he was smooth, controlled, focused.

Low was all over the place...and not playing his A game.

Didn't care to see who won....

And I also don't enjoy watching any lofting of the gutter cap, whether its maximum Bob or Belmonte...just not "bowling" to me either.  It's the trend, so the sheep will follow lol.  Sorry guys, and I'm the least bit traditional or conservative....

Could I bowl chucking over the cap? No
How far inside can I bowl, like put up 200's one after another -
In practice sessions only, when the house didn't oil the lanes in who knows how long - inside of 6th arrow.

Would I do that in a tournament - well why would I want to since my A game is something totally different? If they make balls that allow playing the dry, why not use those. Instead of picking up the most aggressive ball I have to chase inside? And really, I think there has been a change recently for high rev players to move back outside instead of bowling like this. Probably a reason for the resurgence of Urethane. Several years ago would you have seen someone lik ej tackett through urethane hard and straight on tv?

If this is the shot that won, then that is what the people running the tournament put down. Or too many games and tournament should have had re-oil lanes at some point. Neither of them looked like had a very good shot. They really didn't.
