I watched some of it. Breaks between matches seemed long. Rhino looked pretty locked in

True.
I wonder if that was because of what the lefties did during warmups. Since 2 of the higher rev lefties used urethane, maybe they tried to wear down the outside oil more than the older veterans on the right side did, in order to get a stronger reaction? Just a guess.

The track is several boards closer to the gutter on the left side of the lane than the right generally.  My time put in as a lefty taught me that it was much better to miss outside than inside.  If you watch, yeah, they had the gutter, but man if they tugged it a hair, it was gone.  The track on the right side of the lane in my opinion is easier to play because it's a more comfortable amount away from the gutter.  Lefties have to flirt with a lot more danger in my opinion.  Generally the reaction is better on the left side if you make a good shot, but the window is much more narrow.  If a lefty has success, I just congratulate them and move on because more often than not, they're screwed and the righties have the world.

But didn't it seem, last night, that Jacob and Rhino had more area than Wes and Duke on the right side?

Aside, not sure what ball Wes was using, assuming it was a pearl or polished hybrid, but the pin position
(well above the ring ringer; I have no idea of his PAP but if it is anywhere near average, this seemed to be ... not right for the condition in this finals. Maybe it was perfect for the transition during qualifying and match play??)
seemed too flippy for the line he was trying to play. It seemed as if it reduced the area he had to play with on the right side.

The graph of the pattern they showed did not look symmetrical to me.

You are correct PB.  It was asymmetrical with less oil on the left side.

I understand the problem with the left side not being able to breakdown a tough shot pattern because of fewer players.

But at that level, both sides can throw it good, if you give one side and extra 1/2 board of room someone on that side will dominate.

Until they figure out a way to take lane conditioner out of play then the inequity will continue to exist both ways.

This definitely explains and confirms why Belmo was throwing backup balls during the tournament. And seeing that this is the second year they've used this pattern, this may become a trend.

 I watched it.
 Not impressed.
 Not entertained.

All I will say is, whenever someone who is bowling a tournament, encounters conditions during that tournament that seem best attacked by throwing a backup ball on the opposite side of the lane than usual, or lofting the ball 20ft over the guttercaps, I consider that tournament more of a freakish sideshow than I do a serious competition.

 Congratulations to the winner.

The US Open has become the worldest longest trick shot competition.
