Excited Yet?
« on: February 20, 2018, 04:20:32 PM »
I'm starting to get excited about Nationals this year. I'm hoping for a solid outing after last year's dismal attempt at bowling.

Anybody else getting excited?

Somehow the guy that sponsors our team and a bunch of others doesn't have our dates and times yet. Can't get excited yet since I can't guarantee I can make it...

My group is going at the end of April, and we can actually drive there (about 5-6 hours). So yeah, kind of excited about that despite it being 2 months away.

We are going in July, bowling on July 5th and 6th. Four teams, should be a great trip.

Good luck. I had my first experience flying to a tournament when I did the PBA60 event in Indiana last August. Traveling with balls is a pain. One of my two-ball bags was riped and useless when I got there. I ended up using UPS to mail everything home. It was expensive, but at least I had confidence everything would be intact.

Hope your experience is better.

I'm currently pondering my/our options. I have 14 of 22 bowlers making the trip from California. I may use an LTL freight service and shrink wrap everything on a pallet and then pick it up locally when we arrive and then send them back the same way. I did a quick estimate with my companies freight broker and it would be about $600 each way. So for about $100 per bowler, shipping both ways would be taken care of. We could get the balls and bags on one pallet pretty easy.

Of course, that doesn't include the pain-in-the-ass of picking everything up and dropping it back off at a warehouse in Syracuse.

Still in the planning stage for this one.

Much cheaper than BBE or the hassle of checked luggage.

Yea, it cost me about $110.00 to UPS my two 2-ball bags home to LA. I watched everything being packed, so I was sure everything was good. Your deal sounds pretty decent.

I've been going for over 30 years now and have probably flown 20 times with equipment.

I've had a couple of double totes torn up and one double roller bag.

When Brunswick first came out with 3 ball roller bags about 20 years ago we watched an airline handler intentionally throw one bag on the baggage loader going into the plane and broke the plastic cups in half. They hated those 3 ball bags.

I've just started buying 2 ball totes and figure if one gets destroyed every couple years it is cheaper than shipping, particularly since southwest came to town and 2 bags go free.

I can't say I'm really excited this year. I went to Syracuse when it was there before. And with the format change of the tournament I don't have much of a chance to cash any more. But I have a daughter who is currently in Boston so my wife and I are making it a trip to see her, do some sight seeing in New England, and then go to the tournament.

Heck yeah.  I wasn't able to go last year, and it's like the highlight of my year.  Not having the livestreams AND not getting to go last year was torture.

I'm excited for sure, and nervous.  This will be my first chance to go .  The group I'm bowling with isn't going until July 1st, not sure if the wait is going to hurt or help my nerves as a first timer.
Current 'go-to's:
- Badger Infused 50 x 5 x 30
- Truth Tour 70 x 4 x 70
- Black Widow Gold 35 x 5 x 30
- Eon 70 x 4 x 70

Coming soon:
Volt, Hyroad Nano, Flux

Not even close to excited yet, but that will change as I get closer to when I bowl out there. My group is bowling June 23-24.

The only thing i'll say is I guess i'm a little excited we are going later in the year because we always tend to bowl the first or second week of the tournament and go in blind, going a little later will let us be a bit more prepared, but that doesn't always help either.

Our group goes early, we’re bowling in about a month (end of March). It also kicks off a whole slate of tournament season that includes city tournament, states, inter-city, and city masters all in April/early May.

So yea, I’m excited. My wife is less excited.
