Belt marks
« on: April 15, 2018, 03:35:51 PM »
Don’t know what they’re doing at the center, but I’ve been getting some horrendous belt marks (or something similar) that just do not want to come off.

I usually don’t clean my stuff until I get home, but by then (about an hour and a half after bowling), these things are pretty set, and the only thing I have that will get them off is rubbing it with something that generates heat and friction.

I was using my fingers to briskly rub them and get them off, but it is actually burning blisters on my fingers. That’s how much heat and friction it takes to get this gunk to come off.

My home made cleaner isn’t getting these things off. Whatever this is, alcohol, water, and simple green won’t cut it.

Any suggestions for a cleaner that gets belt marks off reasonably well?

LMB(previously lane masters) cleaner will take it off. Tenth Frame Ultra Clean will too, but not approved by USBC. Both still require a effort but not bad.

Or save yourself a few dollars and get acetone. I know, it's illegal but little else will remove those "shoe sole adhesive "  belt marks.

If you keep a basic cleaner in your bag, like powerhouse and get it as soon as it happens, they are manageable without the industrial strenght stuff.

Hook-it will remove it (only approved for before/after comp.)

Monster Tac is remarkably effective as well on belt marks and is approved any time.

I use tac up ball cleaner. Takes a little muscle to remove extreme belt marking, but really restores the tackiness.

Not to make everything all USBC all the time but...

once the "no cleaners during competition" rule goes into effect, proprietors whose equipment is susceptible to leaving belt marks on balls/being dirty will have to step up their service or they will lose bowlers to cleaner centers.  The numbers may not be material but every $ counts...
