This is a little different look from the Big B.  This ball is much more skid flip than I am used to seeing from them, even though they have been leaning more in that direction the past few year.  Keep in mind this ball is not really for the fresh if it is a heavier pattern, but that is what other balls in the line are for.  For me this ball works better when the heads are a little more burnt, but there is still some friction at the end.  This ball is very responsive to the dry, so the more blended the better.  For me it is about 3 boards straighter than the Genius, a few feet cleaner, but much more of a jerk motion at the break point.  Enjoy the new Brunswick look.

The Fortera Exile is a new ball in an entirely new series from Brunswick.  Different is the best word to describe this ball!  The Exile is the pinnacle of skid flip reaction and delivers anytime you need more length and more recovery.  When other balls in my bag are starting to burn up and I am seeing what bowlers would typically describe as "carrydown" this ball really shines.  Our house shot is very wet dry and usually require me to try and play the middle part lane because it is a much better strategy for my slower speed.  The Fortera Exile gives me the option of moving toward the track area and throwing the ball out into the drier part of the lane.  It has proven to eliminate the hang zone and give me an option I never had before!  This ball also recovers well when pitching to the friction on cheetah or playing a defined gutter friction spot on Scorpion.  As long as I have enough axis rotation off my hand and there is a defined friction spot this ball will recover.  It will out corner anything when more length is needed, but there are better options for fresher slicker patterns like the new Melee Cross.  The engineers at Brunswick have done an awesome job making this ball hit too.  It really makes the pins fly and has a distinct crack when it hits the headpin!  I have had a few extra messengers and even struck a few times when hitting the headpin flush since I have started using this ball.  If your looking for a new skid flip piece to open up the lanes when friction is present check out the new Fortera Exile!

LANE CONDITION

Length: 39'

Volume: 22.5ml

Type (THS, Sport Pattern etc): Kegel Winding Road

COMMENTS

Freshly drilled an hour before sport league session and using out of the box surface, this ball reacted very nicely on the Winding Road pattern.  I'm a medium rev player with soft speed and I was able to get inside and create a good amount of recovery to the right.  Pin length was 3.5".  Drilled pin up above bridge.

I look forward to using this ball on tournament conditions when the heads get a bit burnt and/or the backs get tight.  A really good rock to have in your bag.  Very angular unlike a lot of past Brunswick options.  Get yours today.

The Fortera Exile is a new motion in the Brunswick line never seen before. The ball clears the front just like the other newer Brunswick releases, but it is the most angular ball in the line. I can stand left, throw right, and it WILL recover down lane. I have used this on sport shots and house shots and never had an issue with recovery down lane from any angle. This ball is a must for sport patterns because it will not hook early even with the lighter volumes in the middle part of the lane. Even with my higher rev rate, I haven't found a condition yet that it hooks early. Bowler Style:
     Rev Rate: 275-300
     Speed: 16 mph
     PAP: 4 7/8 right by 1/4 up

Layout:
     45 x 4 1/2 x 40

Pattern:
     House Shot, Open Championship (2013)

Comments:
This ball is another great, NEW look from Brunswick. If you know anyone that says they don't like the way Brunswick balls tend to be rolly, they need to try this ball out. Brunswick created this ball to be an extremely versatile ball to compete against the "blueberry muffin". I would say this was accomplished and exceeded expectations.
For myself pearlized balls tend to be very jumpy for me, which forces me to have to move left and then because of my rev rate my carry goes away. This ball though for me is clean through the fronts and little roll in midlane and continuation, isn't even a strong enough of a terms to describe this ball through the pins. I don't think I have ever, in any line, have had a ball go through the pins as strong as this one does.
I bought at the same time as this a Melee Cross and they compliment eachother for me perfectly, when I need more late lane motion I can go to this. I have bowled at multiple houses and this is a perfect ball for medium oil house shots, doesn't read the early and has great recovery as well.

Layout 75 X 5 X 35

I’m a heavy roller with about a 350 rev rate.  Don’t have much axis tilt, don’t get around the ball much and struggle lots of times to get a ball to retain energy and corner at the pins.

The Fortera Exile is a freak of nature.  Incredibly clean, strong at the breakpoint, and it goes sideways through the pins.  Unreal recovery from insane places on the lane.  When you can put an Asymmetrical ball in your hands playing the inside on the burn with high end equipment like this, you subsequently do not sacrifice striking potential.  And it is rare.  I’m so used to balling down as the lanes transition, they burn up, lofting the gutter and so on…  And I don’t feel like with this ball, I have to go to that extreme as early as I used to.  I’m able to stay in the same spot on drier lanes with a high end Asymmetrical ball and it’s just kind of creeping me out.

I have now thrown the Intrigue which is the next ball in the Fortera line and it will read the lane earlier and still corner so if the Exile is projecting too far down the lane and moving closer to the hook spot doesn’t work, you should get an Intrigue to fill the gap.  These balls are a great 1-2 punch!

The first ball in the new Flip line, the Fortera Exile creates a motion that Brunswick hasn’t seen in a very long time. I put my favorite layout on it; I suggest the same for you. This ball is predictable with a great backend motion. Layout is Pin over bridge, cg kicked a little with the mass bias about 1 inch left of my thumb. Very simple, it allows me to really manipulate the ball motion from various angles on the lane. I can get right and play up the back without sacrificing angularity in the backend. I can also get left and get the ball to pick up and get through the pocket without leaving corner pins.

Bowled on THS 42' and 43', 24-25ml of oil.

BOWLER STYLE

Rev Rate: 400

Ball Speed: 18.5

PAP/Track: 4 9/16 right 1/4 up

LANE CONDITION

Type (THS, Sport Pattern etc): THS

Layout 35 x 5.5 x 70

This is by far the cleanest ball that I have ever thrown from Brunswick. No matter how burnt they are up front this ball shoots through it. This ball creates a shape for me that I have never had in my bag from Brunswick. Keep in mind this is not a fresh pattern ball, that is what the Masterminds are for. When you need a ball that goes through extreme burn this is your answer. The energy that this ball stores for the back part of the lane is truly something special. Stop by your local pro shop and experience a totally new experience from Brunswick.

pin up stacked on house, pba, and sport conditions

I drilled the fortera shortly after it was released. Although it was not the first ball out of my bag everytime it soon was. It reads the lane conditions extremely well and makes the transitions very easy to make. I have also found that when I'm leaving corners or just not carrying with other balls i can pull out the fortera and usually start striking. The power and angles this ball hits the pocket with are amazing. I am very happy I chose this ball to put in my bag.
