How strong is the Swamp Monster... really???

I've been playing on a sport league shot where there is actually 48-50 ft" of oil! It a very tough shot! It's similar to the 50ft. of oil that the PBA put out for the tournament that Jason Couch won several months back!

Nothing will hook! We talked to the lane man and it is 48-50ft" of oil and all you have to do is watch your ball go down the lane with NO movement, and I'm already playing as straight as possible! Right up 8 and the ball hits the 6 pin or, if lucky enough, the 3 pin.

The balls I'm using right now are a Reaction ARC (drilled 3 3/8 x 4 1/2) sanded to 600, and the ball only has 9 games on it so it's not dead, yet. I've also tried using a Track CHAMP (drilled 3 3/8 x 3 3/8) sanded to 600... and a WOW (drilled 3 3/8 x 4 1/2) sanded to 600 and NONE OF THESE BALLS WILL HOOK AT ALL!!!

Everybody has been complaining and several are willing to quit the league, because of this shot!

Will a Swamp Monster work on this shot, or be like the other 3 balls and just go straight?

I need something that will store a bunch of energy and actually hook on the backend! Does the Swamp hook early or save it's energy?

Help.

Ric,

Did you use wet sandpaper to put the surface on the Arc?

If so, it may be more dead than you think after 9 games.

The TEC coverstock dies quicker than most other coverstocks for 2 reasons:
1) It sucks up oil like there's no tomorrow
2) The TEC particles while very sharp and abrasive are much more fragile than other particles & loes their point quickly.

My point is, while sandpaper adds surface to the urethane resin of the ball, it's actually breaking off the little jagged edges from the particles that give the ball its grip.

After speaking with many people the general concensus is, only use scotchbrite on TEC & TEC2 balls. For most other particle balls both scotchbrite & Trizact will work. Avoid actual sandpaper whenever possible on Particle Balls.

To come back to your topic, the ARC is just as strong a particle as the Swamp Monster. If it's not making a ripple, I wouldn't suspect the Swamp Monster to either.

you may need more surface on your ball. do not be afraid to try different grits of sandpaper and/or scotch-brite pads to achieve a better reaction. if the lanes are as slick as you say you may need more surface, slower ball speed, more roll, a move farther left, or a combination of these. good luck.

Ric,
a couple of things........

remember, nothing truly hooks on oil....just tilts up a bit  Roll is the key.
Not sure you're going find anything that is quite as strong particle wise as the Swamper......more surface sounds like the key for biting power.

the other thing is this....remember, that PBA show with the 50 ft of oil had Robert Smith on it.....throwing a Shock Trauma,....breaking approx. 5 boards at most!!....for Robert Smith...so even a superrevver isn't getting a big break on that kind of shot.

Hang in there, .....force yourself to remember that it's a challenge....go for it !

The ARC and WOW will work if you take the surface down 220 to 320 as stated earlier.  I ran into the same type of pattern Wednesday.  I threw my Super Carbide Bomb sanded to 320. Hook set in the pocket 242, 234, 243.  I was the only one with any area. Good Luck.

Let me ask this:

If I take the surface down to 320 or 220, will that take the backend movement away or enhance it giving it more of a backend movement, or somewhat "snap", if you will?

Or will it just hook and set?

Several people have told me to stand further left and play more inside, but I've always stood real tight when there was a flood. So how can a person play inside on a flood?

Try playing something like straight up 18.Works well on long flat oil.

I agree on surface!

I went to a tournament once and it was a FTL tournament.

Tons of oil both sides Lefties couldn't wrinkle and righties shot opened right up in the middle of the first game!

I bowled with the rest of the lefties first day pointing up 6 and 8 watching are balls backup as they approached pocket and couldn't do a thing.

Went back to pro shop, he took my PRO Zone Azure down to 320.

I came back and showed the righties a thing or two for a couple of games.

Unfortunately the third game my spare making let me down in the third game!

The ball munched munched munched for about 45 feet and then started to bite at 50 (end of pattern) and moved and really hit!  I actually threw a small swing 10 to 8 and threw soft with a lot of smooth revs.  

Think Carolyn Dorin Ballard on this weeks Harrisburg TV show.  Thumb out early, smooth with the arm and soft and lots of surface!
