Assuming we are talking about the fresh or slightly broken down versions, I'd go with the solid just for the fact that it's a solid. It will be smoother off the breakpoint than it's pearl counterpart and I'd suggest taking it down to 4000 or 2000 grit to slow the transition even more. This is the reaction you want on the shorter patterns especially when they are tough and play more outside. You might also want to think about going with a more controlled layout (often more pin down for most) as well to enhance the desired ball motion.
