Does anyone remember the Sapphire Blue Zone?  Was it a ball you loved, and would kill to find a new one?  Well, here it is!  The Parker Bohn III MVP IS the Sapphire Blue Zone in everyway.  Same core, same PowerKoil 17 coverstock, same everything, but with just a new name.  I recently bought one, and had it drilled up the same as my old Sapphire Blue Zone, and yep...it is the Sapphire alright!  This Zone was the Zone that started it all.  The previous two Zones (the Black Amber and Red Zone) had flopped, but when the Sapphire came out...well just look at the Zones now.  A Sapphire Pearl Zone followed, and then came along the Danger Zone.  The rest is history.  The MVPs are basically Zones from the past.  The Walter Ray Williams, Jr. MVP has the Combat Zone coverstock with the Gold Rhino Pro core, and the Mike Aulby MVP looks to be similar to the Zone Defense and Deep Danger Zone (D2Z), but I don't have a confirmation on the Aulby.  Also the Johnny Petraglia LT-48 is another Zone...the Danger Zone and Red Alert.  It has the numbers of the Red Alert, but has the Danger Zone core.  I have my Parker drilled with a 1 1/4" pin, and the CG kicked away from the grip to roll early.  A smooth reaction up front with a nice arc on the backend, and like the Sapphire...tremendous carry.  For anyone wanting a Zone, these balls are tremendous at a not so tremendous price.  It is a shame though if these don't become big sellers, and if they don't it will be because they lack a 'Z' on the label.  Pick one up...they're awesome balls and an awesome price!

John,

Yes, the Parker Bohn MVP is the old Sapphire Blue Zone.  Scroll down and read my previous review of it.  Bowling This Month loved this MVP because it was the re-roll out of the Sapphire Blue Zone.  I won't be surprised if the Parker Bohn, III MVP gets mid-priced Ball of the Year in Bowling This Month.  Good luck!

This ball is the next best thing to SEX......that's right, it's that good. Read my Ti Messenger ball review. Buy 2 0r 3 of these too before the Battle Zone line takes over. They may become unavailable. You know how Brunswick does it.....just look at the Impact Zone. Can you say disappearing act ????

This ball is excellent for my style (15.5-16.5 MPH, 15-18 revs, 20-40 degrees of axis rotation).  I had a Deep Danger Zone TE that I had to get rid of because it was plugged, and the PBIII was the closest match to my DDZTE.  I drilled it up 4 1/2" Pin-PAP, pin/cg line 90 degrees to my axis rotation line, and pin/PAP line through my ring finger (the pin is actually right under my ring finger).  This ball moves very evenly to the pocklet with no squirts or overreaction, something I've been looking for to use in my bowling center.  It hits the pocket with tremendous power, and even on light carrydown, this ball still moves with its box condition surface.  Anyone who wants the power of a Zone in a non-hook-in-the-box surface should definitely get a PBIII.  For once I'm glad to see Brunswick rehash an old ball and sell it again.  Great ball at an even greater price (very un-Brunswick-like).

Thank You to Tom Lehmkuhl from Brunswick for his support. This lightly polished Blue Reactive with gold lettering is another one of those "Bang for your Buck" balls. It is suppose to be a low priced copy of the famous Blue Sapphire Zone. The roll pattern of this ball is a early revving smooth rolling strong backend reacting Monster for the money ball. It best suited for the bowler who does not put alot of hand into the ball. Bowlers with a few revs can use this ball but better have some hold area inside. My fifth game on the ball was a 279 with the first 9 strikes in a row. If it wasn't for the person throwing such a lousy shot for the first one in the tenth I would have recorded my 13th 300. This was extra special because I was bowling in Wisconsin Men's State Tournament Team event. Truly a great ball for the money. If you are on a budget and are looking for a wonderful benchmark ball for medium to oily lanes consider this a choice. Thank you for reading this review and good luck with your bowling endeavors. Dwight.

This is not a rehashed review.  I sold my last PB III MVP purchased another.

Specs:  4 1/2" pin to PAP, 4 1/2" CG to PAP (CG is below grip midline), pin is on PAP/ring finger line, surface is box finish, no balance holes.

Lane Condition:  Moderate taper with 10 units on board 1 to 15 units on board 11, 18 units on board 12 to 26 units on board 20.  Oil runs 26', buff to 36', stripped backends.  Also rolled on choppy house condition with a track area present around 10-13 board, light carrydown at breakpoint (5-7 board).

I drilled this ball up Monday (1/8) and used it on the choppy shot from Sunday night, and just before the lanes were being done for Monday night.  Very clean through the lighter portions of oil, very strong backend reaction off of the carrydown.  Good power into the pocket with no deflection (left 3 solid 9 pins in 5 shots).  I could play my normal shot with this ball on this condition (laydown at 27 board, swing through 16 board out to 6 board at the breakpoint).

Tried this ball Tuesday afternoon (1/9) before lanes were done for Tuesday night league.  Same as Monday; no squirt or overreaction, plenty of power, same line as Monday.

Tuesday night, fresh house condition, even stronger reaction on the stripped backends.  Good recovery if let out a board or two, no hold inside, but if pulled 2 boards went brooklyn.  I had to move my feet 3 boards left over the course of 3 games (target board was  the same).  The pair I bowled on is known for it's erratic shot breakdown, but this ball handled everything fine.

I used this ball all 3 games, and that's the first time I used a ball all 3 games since I shot a 700 with my Puma back in October.

I loved my last Parker Bohn, and this ball's reaction is very similar as they're both drilled the same.  The only difference is the break as my last PB had it's CG slightly above the grip midline and showed a small flip.  This PB flips just a little, but still packs a punch.

Anyone who likes a flip drilling and is looking for a tame flip with good movement should pick up this ball and set a flip layout/drilling in it.  You'd be glad you did.

I have had this ball for some time and just haven't posted a review on it! I drilled it with the pin above and just to the right of my ring finger and put the cg just below we also put a very small weight hole an inch below my pap! Resurfaced this ball and polished it to about 2000! Man this ball flares alot and has a nice backend on it when the lanes give it to you. It is not so good on a fresh shot. It tends to slide through the break. Haven't thrown it on a sport shot yet!!! When your bowling on some lanes that are in some transation or a broken down condition when you need to stand left and throw right this ball will give that too you. I recommend this ball to anyone except a cranker it would be a little bit iffie! But a stroker or tweener would benefit from this ball.

Good Luck and Good Bowling,
Michael

2 WORDS  = = GREAT BALL!!!!!!.
THIS BALL IS AN AWESOME BALL NO MATTER HOW YOU DRILL IT OR THROW IT, JUST WATCH THE EVER SO CLASSIC BRUNSWICK RINGING TEN PIN OR SOME FLAT HITS BECAUSE OF THE OLD BRUNSWICK TRADE MARK, OR JUST LEARN TO ROTATE YOU AXIS MORE.
VERY CONTROLLABLE BALL AND A PERFECT COMPLIMENT TO THE DANGER ZONE WHEN EVERYTHING GETS CRAZY AND YOU NEED SOMETHING YOU CAN CONTROL AND PLACE FOR A PREDICTABLE REACTION
