Mega Idolâ„¢ uses the same core shape as the idolâ„¢, but with the core inverted. This change has lowered the RG and significantly increased the differential to create a ball with much stronger backend response as compared to the idol.

Lane Conditions

Mega Idol is best suited for medium to heavily oiled lane conditions. The Mega Idol can also be used on medium to dry lane conditions by sanding the ball to a 1500 grit finish and polishing to a high gloss. This finish, combined with a layout designed for greater length, will allow the idol to be used on drier lane conditions.

For a new company, Circle has done really well with it's first set of balls.  I took a MegaIdol with a 4" pin and placed the pin 2 1/2" from the PAP and above the line from the PAP to the finger holes.  Put an extra hole 6 3/4" from the center of the grip.  This ball rolls very smoothly, but still makes a very strong move on the back end.  Great drilling when you need a good reaction in the midlane.  Out of the box, the ball comes shiny and didn't quite roll soon enough for the condition (bowling a league using the National Patterns with 43' of oil in this particular pattern), so I sanded it down with 220 grit to take off the factory shine, and then sanded it back up to 800 grit.  Now it reacts perfectly for the pattern.  So, it rolls good sanded for heavy oil, and also rolls well out of the box with the shine, which would be good for regular league conditions.  As I said at the top, another great ball.  I can't wait for their next one!

I laid this ball out according to the Mo Pinel Asymmetrical layout sheet. I put the pin 3 inches from my axis and the mass bias 4 3/8 inches for my axis. My track diameter is 11 1/2 inches, and my axis point is 5 1/2 inches, up 1/2 inch. With this layout the ball would pick up a heavy roll to the pocket at about 35 feet.

I threw this ball on our heavy oil volume house shot with dry outside of 7. On the house shot, I played around 10 and bounced it off the dry at the 35 foot mark and the ball would just roll back to the pocket. I liked the roll pattern I saw in this ball. With the Mega Idol core, it products a heavy/smooth arcing motion throughout the lane.

I did practice with this on a drier lane condition and I was able to open up the lane more, but still have the heavy rolling midlane arc back to the pocket.

I bought a Mega Idol about a month ago and have had no problems with it so far. I drilled it to go long with the pin in the middle finger, CG on the grip line and the mass bias on line with the CG.  I own an Ultimate Inferno and that gives me good backend but nothing comparable to the backend of the this ball.  I took it to a tournament with no shots thrown on it yet.  It was a medium-oily to oily pattern.  In practice i had a good look with the Ultimate but threw the Mega Idol for an experiment.  It surprised me with the backend and that i had to play further left. I had a better look with the Mega Idol so i chose that ball and opened up with the front 9 and was very pleased to find out that i could play alot of different lines with this ball.  It is a very versitale ball with a very predictable drilling.  I reccommend.

I wanted to add another review of the MegaIdol, as it has become one of my favorite balls in the Circle line.  As noted, it has an asymetrical core and works well using the basic drilling methods for asymetrical core balls.  I have 2 MegaIdols in my bag, one of them drilled with the pin about 2" from the axis point and above the line from the fingers to the PAP.  This ball arcs very well and doesn't jump off the dry on the PBA's A and E patterns.  The other ball is drilled using the same method, except this pin is located just above and right of the ring finger.  This ball goes down the lane well, but really makes an agressive move on the back end.  Throws pins all over the place.  Used this ball in a PBA regional this weekend playing 5th arrow and was sending the head pin across the lane with regularity.  One suggestion if you are planning to drill one of these balls, take the factory shine off of it and then bring it back up to the level of shine you want.  The factory shine seems to make the ball a little too "jerky", but when removed, this one rolls as well as anything on the market.
