15 lb 2 oz.  4 in pin 2 1/2 top weight

Like all the balls I drill, before adjusting the surface I try the ball(s) out of box before trying something else.
After 9 games on a fresh house shot I realized that some people are going to want to adjust the surface.
Pin under ring finger, and "cg" kicked out, I do notice that this ball reacts a lot like the Wrath XP. Although it hits a lot harder, and keeps the pins low to the deck.
This ball reacts later that the original ACTION, but not as late as the " ACTION PACKED". It gets through the heads really easy on a fresh condition.
After 15 Games I took an old piece of 600 grit sandpaper on high speed with a lot of water, this gives the ball more length and hits just as hard.

*****WARNING, THIS REVIEW MAY NOT BE WHAT YOU FIND OUT AT ALL, YOUR MILEAGE MAY VARY*****

I am on this kick right now of putting the pin low in my grip, close to my grip center.  I did this with this ball also.

I drilled this Action Max with the pin 1/2 inch above and 1/4 inch left of my grip center, putting the pin about 4 3/4 from my PAP.  The cg is out to the right at about a 3:30 or 4:00 position to the pin, the MB is about a 45 degree layout.

This ball is not very good on a house shot, unless it is fresh and heavy.  The ball does exactly as I desired, it gets through the arrows very clean, revs up alot in the middle third of the lane, but doesn't change direction hard at all.  From 4th and 5th arrow with some oil (PBA Regional conditions) this ball is a beast.  I like it that the ball keeps revving all the way through the pin deck, hitting very hard.

I think with a more "normal" layout, pin over the fingers type, that this ball will be great on a fresh league shot.  Clean through the front, sharper break point than the Action, but earlier and more hook than the Action Packed.  Not sure if all three are needed for one person's arsenal, but there are differences between the three.

Action Max will be fairly versatile with the right surface adjustments, but don't think it is the best choice for really dry or really oily lanes, will cover the mediums really well.

Nice ball, good colors, hope this helps ya....
Thanks to Shawn Morris for this ball.  Looking forward to using this ball on PBA pattern 5 on Brunswick synthetics in Abilene TX July 22 and 23.

If you want a ball that hits, this is the ball to get.  Even my girlfriend while watching me use it last night for the first time said "WOW, that ball hits hard!"  I was like "yea, i know =)"

Anyways, 15lb, lefty, pin above fingers at 3 3/8" stacked on top of the CG.  On the fresh and oily THS last night, this ball has no problem finding its way back.  Its surprisingly clean through the heads, but starts its roll very early and just keeps on going.  The pin action is incredible with this ball.  Many times my thumb snug onto (still need to carve it out) the ball to find itself in some awkward place in the pins, only to find 1 or 2 left from the crazy pin action.  It's definitely for the Heavy oils and it eats up oil FAST so be prepared to change lines every 4-5 frames or practice heavy on one line in shadow and use that line as a bumper for something weaker.

Pluhowsky won Queens with it, can't wait to see what Chris Barnes does with the ball.  Great job Big C300!

Columbia is back on track with the Action series. The Action is one of the best balls over the last couple years. Columbia has taken all the characteristics that made the Action a great ball, and filled in the weak spots to produce the Action Max. The Action had a very strong, consistent early roll. In the Action Max, we see the same strong, consistent early roll, but the main difference is down the lane. By CG’s (of Columbia) own admission, the Action was lazy in the backend on some patterns. The Action Max gets to the breakpoint and continues through the pin deck, and hits harder than any other Columbia ball I’ve ever seen. Combine that strong core with one of the most versatile coverstock series in bowling, and you get a great performer. It’s nice to see a company with all the history as Columbia 300 produce some great high-end balls after a short time of not doing so. I’m very excited to see the next batch of new releases from Columbia.

Bowler’s PAP: 3” over, up ¾”

Layout used: 3 3/8” x 2” pin x cg to PAP (Positive Axis Point)

Recommendations: Med-Heavy Oil, rev-challenged players(box finish), higher-rev players (light shine)

Columbia has done it again. This ball is a beast! Very strong but still controllable reaction. Columbia combined the midlane reaction of the original Action with the amazing backend reaction of the Action Packed to produce the Action Max.

Drilled pin below the ring finger with a tiny balance hole, this ball has a continuous backend reaction and a devastating impact. OOB finish for low rev players like me and a very light polish for high rev players.

Pins, be aware, the Action Max has arrived.

OK now that I have a sufficient number of games on this ball, let me finish my review. About 45 games in, and it still hits harder than the original Action. Ball is amazing and is so easy to get down the lane, no over reaction, but defiantly needs oil. You don't want to throw this ball in a late league, unless you have a lot of speed.
Drilled with pin below ring finger an "cg" kicked out to the right of thumb, Your not going to find a better ball, Action Max looks for friction and when it finds it, you are going to be very pleased with it's potential.
Congratulations must go out to Columbia 300 for this wonderful ball.
I would like to thank Chad Murphy and the rest of Columbia 300 for allowing me to throw such a wide range of equipment. They have outdone themselves with the technology of this ball. You need this ball in your arsenal. If not, one of your competitors will.

Thanks for taking the time out to read my review:

I purchased this ball looking for out right hook and
I found it. I agree with one of the other reviewers,
Columbia had gotten a little off track with their high
performance balls with the Reaction series and definitely
the Throttle series. Beginning with the Bully series they got
back on track and definitely with the Actions series. My
Action Max has a pin location between 2 & 3, top weight
is around 3.0. Left handed, medium to high revolutions,
ball speed is about 17 mph. Drilled straight up, highly polished,
pin is located directly above and between my ring finger
and middle finger. I compared this ball to my Action, the
Action is drilled the same way. The Action Max gives me
literally an additional 4 to 5 boards of hook on the backend
then my Action and continuously drives through the pins.
Normal house condition six and out dry, the middle of the
lane filled with oil but not flooded. The M80^2 Friction Plus
cover gives this ball additional drive that I haven't seen in
a Columbia ball in long time. Good job Columbia another
great piece.

I just got my Action Max today. This ball is awsome, i shot 619 with it for my first series. But here is the amazing part, i did not have to make a single adjustment for the 8 games i used it for. It just seemed to find the pocket, even if i missed my mark by 5 or more boards.

Overall Hook: 9 out of 10
This is one of the biggest hooking balls I've seen so far. It revs up like crazy and just turns left.
Backend: 9.5 out of 10
Strong arc.
Length: 6.5 out of 10
Gets down the lane very well and does not overreact if you get the ball into the dry too quickly
Hit: 10 out of 10
If you hit the pocket, 99.9% of the time you are getting a strike. This ball also provides you with a ton of messengers to take out the 10 pin or break up a split.

Maximum.

This is exactly the one word to possibly describe this ball. It is everything that Columbia said it would be and more.  Mine is a 15lb. 3oz. with a 3oz. top weight and a 3.5-4" pin drilled stacked leverage. I wasn't sure if this type of drilling would be too strong for me, but I went ahead and took a gamble at it.  I don't have any regrets for that.

First night I used it the lanes were medium/heavy in my league and this ball rolls beautifully. Played the 15 board and kept it to about the 7 board at breakpoint. This ball does have lenght to it but the best part is how much arc it has at the breakpoint and it never stops or loses energy. Got a split once that night because I started to slow down on my speed but still hits the pins very hard.  Had to put it away after the second game because of all the oil this ball was soaking up. So the first two games I shot 243 and 197.

A few days later I bowled about 16 games with it on heavy oil and the results were about the same.  Had to play the 12 board that time but still kept it at the 7 board at breakpoint. Like my EPX-T1, I have alot of control with the Action Max and it's extremely predictable on the backends. The only thing I can say is don't slow down on your speed and don't overhook it; this ball will take off to the left! With the combined styles of the Action and Action Packed, I'm very pleased with the results so far and already shot 279 with it during practice.  I'm hoping that my second week of using this in league play with be just as good or even better than the first time.

Now I know why they call this ball Action Max.  And for the $100 that I spent on it, it was worth the wait and effort to get it.

I just bought mine at 15 lbs 3oz. I am a new serious bowler and I must say that this ball has tons of hook.  I have played with it 15 games and this ball just demolishes the pins.  I will have to keep using it to give it a better review but off the top it's better than I thought. Good job Columbia.

I just bought this ball off eBay for about $50. I must say it was well worth it. Great ball all around. I didn't have that great of a league night with it because I really had to adapt to this ball.

Its drilled with the pin below the right hand ring finger with a weight hole to the right of the thumb. (not sure on specifics)

This ball is very versitile and you can play of ANY surface. I played in league with it and we have new wooden lanes with a 40ft legnth pattern with medium heavy oil and medium on the outsides. I would play in the middle of the lane when I released the ball and get it out to the 2 or 3 board and this ball will come back with force. The consisticy on this ball is awsome. Played the same spot all night in league and then on Monday night which is an all you can bowl I put 20 games on it and had to move about 5 boards over all night but hitting the same break point. By the end of the night I was sliding into the gutter with my left foot and throwing it out to the 3 or 4 board and it was hitting just as hard as ever. One thing that makes the ball so versitile is that no matter where you throw it, it will find the pocket, wether its inside or riding the gutter, dry or wet lanes.

The motion down the lane on the ball is awsome. Its not snapy but it covers lots of boards with a very hard but smooth arc on the backend. Ball goes pretty long and then just WHAM its turning left straight for the pocket. I also have a storm double agent which doesn't hook like this. I had it drilled to roll early and big arc. The balls I would say hook about the same as far as covering boards but the Action Max does it down the lane as to where the Double Agent does it starting about mid lane. Another great thing is the pin action, I couldn't count how many times the 7-10 was standing last night and this ball had pins flying all around taking it out. It probaly took out the 7-10 and the 4-7-10 spilt with the head pin about 9 out of 10 times like it was nobodies business. It sends the pins flying low and triping out stuff like you wouldn't believe. No other ball that I own or owned has ever done like this ball!

The ball does not pick up oil alot and does not have to be wiped off every shot like some balls only about once every game will you be wiping this one off and its VERY easy to clean with just one cleaning with some of Track's Blue colored oil removing product this thing is tacky as if it was brand new.

My first 9-pin tournament with it was this past saturday. I bowled 21 strikes in a row with the ball I think I had a maximum of 5 9-pin strikes! I ended up with a 792 scratch series and my partner has a columbia EPX T1 ball (which is very similer to the Action max as far as hook is concerned) he shot a 810 scratch which put us at 1602 scratch with a 1806 handicap series which is one of the highest scores at our center. We usually don't shoot no more then 1650's with handicap before i got this ball but we both have just got our balls and both are great! I ONLY PAID $50 FOR THE BALL AND A COUPLE DAYS LATER DONE MADE THAT BACK WITH A TOURNAMENT WIN!!

I never was a fan of columbia bowling until now!
Great job by them and if anyone is looking for a smooth ball with tons of hook and angle then I would higly recomend this ball. By far one of my favorites!
Remember I got the ball used and its working like this, just think what a new one would do! I'm going to buy a few more of this ball and drill it up a couple different ways and keep one to replace the one I'm bowling now and drill it up exactly the same because the way it works......MAN I'M LOVING IT!!

the action max is a very strong ball it reacts and hits how everyone says it dose it is a good ball and recommended for medium oil. If you frow the ball out on heavy oil it will not come back. it is good for inside or up and in lines on the heavier oil.

The columbia action max is a good ball that works well on medium oil lanes due to its harder pocket hitting, although it is also good on the heavier oil lanes i would recommend it for medium. I rocommend this ball due to its hard hitting backend on the medium oiled lanes. When i first got this ball my average was 130 and now im hitting 160. Thanks to this ball my highest series over 3 games is 584 This ball was no waste of money
