Columbia Action:

Ball Specs
The ball being drilled was a 3” pin out with 3.00 oz top weight.
Drilling: Pin 4 1/2" from PAP and Mb 4 1/2" from PAP (approximately 55 degrees) pin is Above Ring finger, 3" above grip midline. Weight hole Target Weighted 2 3/4" from Grip center pitched away.

Bowler Information:
Track diameter is 10 1/2.
PAP is measured at 5 1/4 over and 3/8" up.
Average ball speed (foul line to head pin) is 17 mph.
Axis rotation is typically 90 degrees
Initial rev rate is typically 300 rpm, "Tweener"
Lane Condition and Pattern:
AMF Bowlero, HPL 9000 Panel. Oily lanes with semi clean backends.

REVIEW:
This is one of the hardest hooking balls I've seen in some time from Columbia. I can see why Wes Mallot likes this ball. As long as there is heavy oil on the lane, the ball is wonderful. I shot 279 with a cold 8 pin in the 6th frame 1st game on the ball, then came back with 172 the second game. This ball is raw power. Sometimes to much as in the second game. If the ball senses dry it turns dead left. Great ball for the stroker on oil, crankers will have to polish this one up to use on mediums, I would not suggest this ball for dry.

This ball is at least 4-5 broads more hook and back end reaction over the Big Bully. The Big Bully has a more predictable roll, smoother motion. The Action is very strong change of direction when it hits dry.

Thanks for reading my review.

ist time drilling a columbia ball since the chaos line..been throwing strom and ebonite only for past 5 years...
Specs.. 2 onces top weight drilled 4 1/2 by 4 1/2 pin right of ring finger.18+ mph above average hand.
this ball lives up to the hype its been getting on tv with barnes and mallot using it .wanted a skid flip reaction for current conditions bowling on...and thats what i got..what i didnt expect was the forgiveness or predictability i got with this ball.clean through heads and nice strong continuation through the pins.gonna keep this one in my bag...very good ball

Tweener with average ball speed
Easy house shot medium volume of oil
Very high track, I must keep an eye on low flaring balls and drillings

Drilled pin just below fingers, center on gripline
CG kicked out two inches right of gripline at almost 45 degree angle downward.
3/4 inch weight hole, 4 inches right of thumb

This ball is great for playing the oil line.  It rolls very strong inside.  If I get the ball right to the dry, the ball walks right back in (not the left turn other reviewers are seeing, a gradual recovery).  This ball/drilling combination would work great on lanes that carry well from the inside angle.  Also, being able to play inside usually means you'll stay lined up longer since a majority of bowlers play down and in.  The ball hits very strong from the inside line, almost too strong (ever see a solid 7-9?).  While the ball does recover from errant shots outside, the resulting hit is a light, fluffer; which can be good on some lanes, but may result in a corner pin. I'm kinda curious about what a shiny one would roll like, but The One is the only shiny ball I need right now.  This ball definitely filled the one hole in my assorted arsenal.

Specs: 310 revrate, 45 rotation, 11" track diameter, 16 mph, pap 5 by 1/8 up

Ball: 15.0 ad, pin 5.5 above fingers no hole with 0 side and finger 1oz top box finish first and 2000 abralon for games 3 and 4

Bowled on a fresh sport pattern with 40' distance and 24 ml volume on wood with a urethane finish. The ball revs very quickly as expected with this low rg core. The ball flat out HOOKS. I stood 13 and targeted 2-3 at 20' and used a more up the back release. The ball's motion was reminicent of the Shore D, fast and furious! It graps the lane very aggressively near the end of the pattern with a strong arc off the dry. carry was well above average. As the condition broke down i gradually moved left with feet and target. As a blew a spot open the ball responded quicker and quicker to the exposed friction area. I then hit the surface with 2000 abralon and the ball instanly had 4-5 feet more length and lost nothing at the break point. I compared this ball to an epx, trifecta and test-ball from columbia (another epoxy based cover). It hooked later than all 3 (all balls were 2000 abralon) and hooked more than the epx and test ball and on par with the trifecta. Carry was good on both hit and missed releases. Scores were 211,198,247 and 226. A few solid 8's and 2 4-9's were simply part of the experience but the ball carried very well and has been very well received with box finish by customers with all types of games except those with slower speeds (they needed polish of course) In my opinion one of columbia's best releases these past 2 years.

Tried one of these for a specific condition because of the ball's strength and also its success in the PBA. I felt it would not be a Dud. Very short pin Action, 4x4 stacked under the ring finger. Polished it medium-high. Ball gave me a 25 for 32 carry percentage out of the box. This is not a high scoring center, had a solid 232 247 247 and made 4 times what the ball cost, out of box. It hits very well on light hits as well as flush hits. It is very strong off the drier parts of the lane but doesn't want to go high. Tremendous pin action. It's smooth yet strong but different than other similar type balls. I was pleasantly surprised as I was disappointed with some of the M80 balls. It also looked really good and I would suggest you guys try one of them. Far exceeded my expectations.

Drilled the action up with a 4" pin under the RF.  This is a wonderful ball for a typical house pattern.  The reaction is really smooth up front and a strong turn @ the b. point.  This ball hits like a tank, and keeps the pins low for great carry.  I am a fan of both coverstock and core shape from prior releases, and this combination is purely awesome.

Drilled it pin over and inbetween fingers with cg kicked right, sanded to 800.

This ball is one of the most versatile balls I have ever thrown.  It clears the heads fairly well and has an aggressive but not over aggressive midlane and a strong backend reaction.  The more you hit it the more it hooks.  This is one of those balls that are a must have.  Plus it matches up well on all types of lanes and from HPLs to Anvilane to Pro Anvilane, Unlike a lot of balls out there.
Why do you think the guys on tour are loving it!

You can use it on almost anything from heavy to light medium.  Playing deep or going straight the ball just performs so well its makes pins look silly.
Compared to a few others drilled the same way, the Brunswick Vapor Zone has more midlane hook, the Track Blue Heat has and earlier hook but less on the back, the Track Freak A Zoid is similar to the Action but has less hook potential.

Buy it and you will not be disappointed.

drilled my action 4 1/2 over the label and 2 inches up over ring finger. this ball rolls very good and has a good back end reaction. This all offset all other balls in the columbia line. When the EPX is to early and not enough inn  the back end this ball is great

This ball was drilled as follows:

PAP-Pin 4 1/2"
PAP-MB 4"
Pin 3" above midplane with a small hole on PAP

Columbia's releases have been inconsistent at best over the last year or two, and I have cut back on their equipment as a result.  I was mildly pleased with the Backyard Bully but the hooking Bullies were so mediocre that I have avoided Columbias stronger balls, and the EPX made me wish for golf season.  I tried this one after seeing it used in a tournament where friction wasn't free.  Columbia seems to have a good piece here with decent length and very good midlane pickup and continuation.  Stay inside the oil line and it's a real winner.  Leak it and it suffers from lost hit and corneritis.  This ball reminds me a bit of the Ebonite Overtime and is unlike anything I've seen lately from Brunswick.  These seem to be the new trend in hooking balls.

The Action Packed (drilled exactly the same) is a similar piece with considerably more backend motion and sharper hit probably due to the tweaked flip block.  This one, however, is not to be trapped in the pattern.  It likes to be bumped to the beach and changes direction much more suddenly.

I won't be filling the bag with C-balls anytime soon, but these two will stay for now and we'll see how Columbia does with the next few.

Use a polished Action, Label drilled, pin over ring. This layout allows me to play almost any line, with good results. Use it polished for length, as I don't need to worry too much about not being able to get ball reaction. High track, 5 inch PAP, 15 MPH, about 285 RPM. Great ball for anyone looking for a consistent rolling, hard hitting piece in their arsenal.

drilled this ball about a week ago (layout in profile) and i am very impressed.
I've had layouts like that on balls before and they worked well so i figured why not.  It was actually duller than i thought but still worked good. on ths it worked very well reading mid lane and rolling strong to the pocket, it allowed me to play deeper than any of my other stuff, without sacrificing carry.  I found this ball very versatile i can take my hand out of it and play straighter or put some hand in it and swing it.  I am very impressed with this ball and would reccomend for anyone wanting a strong ball with good mid lane roll, and good recovery and carry.

First review here.  Drilled this ball up about 2 weeks ago started off bad but thats my fault still trying to learn how to bowl properly.  Tonight though I figured out that I was dropping my shoulder and would cause me to be incosistent.  Anyway back to the ball the rolls great very forgiving, but you have to get under the ball pretty good or the ball will just take off on you, if you come around the side off the ball will go brooklyn no matter what.  Tonight I bowled my first 600 series with a 617 (191,235,191).  In conclusion great ball well worth price no regrets at all.

Got an Action off of Ebay a few weeks ago very cheap!  15lb., top weight 2.75". pin 4-4.5".  The first time I tried it I was throwing it at almost the middle arrow going deep to about the 12 board. It really does get through the heads and midlanes very well and a non-stop continuous backend assault. the lane conditions then was medium oil with dry backends and this ball definetely needs oil to carry. Otherwise, it'll just zip past the pocket and leaves alot of brooklyn shots.

Yesterday, I polished it up to see what type of reaction it would have on heavy oil and their is a true difference. My Ebonite One ball was sliding down the lanes so I tried the Action. More length, smoother arc, and some sweet backend action. I worked on my posture, so my ball speed went down quite abit but I switched lines and threw it from the 11-13 board to the 4 board and it still hooked being polished. I'm going to try it polished again a few more times and if I like it like that, then I won't have to worry about dulling it for awhile.

Overall, best $40 that I've ever spent on a ball and the smoothest, most consistent ball I've ever had besides my One and my X-Factor Triple Xtreme (no longer have that ball).  For anyone who needs a ball to medium/heavy conditions, the Action is the way to go.

I'm really confused about this ball.  I honestly cant find a condition where this  ball works best.  I have had consistent scores from medium-dry to very oily, but nothing spactacular.  Just seems to give me over under and squirt.  Maybe ill give it a polish and see if i can get it a little more consistent.  I'm not saying it's a bad ball, the reaction actually seems quite good some of the time, but other times it just leaves me going...huh?
