To ancient Greeks, Apogee meant highest point. Today, Apogee means reaching the height of asymmetric performance and the apex of power. Columbia 300 pairs the new hard-hitting Capstoneâ„¢ core with shiny pearl M80â„¢ reactive coverstock to produce corner-turning backends, devastating power and peak pin carry. This absolute choice also features the strongest asymmetric core in Columbia 300 history and introduces a new out-of-this-world color - Celestial Bronze.

awesome i am the first person to post a review for this  ball. ive been waiting for this ball to come out so i could give info to everyone else. i work in the pro shop at my center and i recieved this ball in early August. i did not expect a ton of reaction from this ball when i got it, and i was correct. i have it drilled with the pin just under the middlefinger on the negative side of the ball with the cg kicked out at about 5 o clock back on the positive side of the ball with a weight hole. i favor this drilling because this gives me good length with a sharp but predictable backend reaction. i decided to test my luck and try another columbia ball,(the last columbia ball i threw was an Action, which i didnt like at all). The first thing i noticed about this ball is that it is very predictable and it reads the lane very well. this ball is great on a typical house shot, however if this ball hits oil you can just about kiss it goodbye. i tried sanding it to a smooth 1000 and still did not find much luck playing in the oil. with it's nice length and somewhat snappy backend motion i would almost recommend it for drier or shorter patterns. i can see this being anybody's primary ball that will give you confidence when you pull it out of the bag. although i am hooked with brunswick i will say that i am very impressed with this balls hitting power. if i were to compare it to any other columbia ball i would say that it is slightly tamer than the Wrath. Overall good ball.

Style: Power Stroker
Speed: 17.5-18 MPH
PAP: 5" & 1/2" up

Purchased the APOGEE with a 3.5 inch pin & 4 1/4 top. Drilled with the pin below ring finger & 4 1/2" from PAP, MB at 45 degree, end up with 3/4 oz of side weight.

The Apogee is one of the strongest reactive type balls on the market (M80 Cover + Capstone Core). Overall what I'm most impressed by is the pin reaction I get with it. This ball may be the hardest hitter I have ever used, it goes long and makes an extremely strong, but controllable move toward the pocket with explosive power. Bowled on wood lanes and overall hook was high. The torsion force (Capstone Core) is even much stronger when comparing with Morich's Vanguard Core (I have had WMB, Shock & Awe and Awesome Flip).

Once the heads breakdown, put it away for the night, you ain't got enough speed to play it on dry or lighter oil without surface prep.

Not for dry, or at least for me.

Another great ball from Columbia 300!

LANE CONDITION - MED OIL with backend

Hook: 9.5

Hit: 11

Readability: 9

OVERALL: 9.8 (Scale of 1 - 10)

All I have to say about this ball is that Columbia 300 Industries has does it again, here is a ball that has taken the next step. Combining a really good cover stock and combined it with an asymetrical core, producing a ball that is really easy to get through the heads, and giving it one heck of a kick on the back ends.

Drilled this ball pretty much stacked. Pin and mass bias kicked out,PAP is over 5 up 1/4 with a correction hole, this ball is not an over reactor.

I primarily use this ball on lanes that have broken down a little, I don't find myself moving a whole lot during the night, 3-4 boards at most with the feet, and 2-3 target. Between the Apogee and the Action Max I have a great starting arsenal for anything I try to do, ( leagues, tournaments).
I would like to thank Chad Murphy, ALex Rios, and the entire Columbia 300 staff for their expert advice.

Drilled it up on Tuesday.  I am a RH high 3/4 roller with ball speed around 16-17 mph.  I drilled this ball up using Columbia's suggested A drilling.  The ball came to me with a 3.5 pin and 4.5 top. I drilled it up with a 4 x 4 layout.  The pin above my ring finger.

One word to describe this ball......awesome.  This ball will continue my loyalty to Columbia equipment.  It will get through the heads clean, even when the lanes begin to go away.  And it does not deflect through the rack like some balls, this ball will continue to drive through the rack.  It has a very strong backend reaction.  More than I am accustomed to.  When the lanes started to go away for me, I could not keep up with the ball.  So if you are looking for an aggressive backend ball that will still give you length, I would highly recommend this ball.

Great job Columbia!!!!!

Drilled this ball for typical house shot wet-drys.. whereas if I feed my current equipment into the dry, my stuff has been going sideways and/or no carry. I set it up with a 2" pin to PAP and 5½ MB to PAP, with the pin 1½" above the midline, the mass bias marker ended up being under the thumbhole. I haven';t thrown the ball yet, but when I do I will add to this posting at that time. I noticed people were drilling this ball pretty strong on these reviews. This is a medium ball which I drilled weakly for low flare so I can play the friction better without getting over-reaction.

I drilled my Apogee with the pin over my ring finger, the cg out to the right some, and the MB is about 1/2 right of my thumb hole.  The three markings were not all in line.  The ball had almost a 4" pin to cg, there was 3 7/8 top weight before drilling, so I had to use a low rev hole to get it back to legal.  The pin is 4" from my PAP, with the MB in about a 90 degree position.

My original thought when throwing the ball, I thought it rolled alot like a Vapor Zone, very rolly, pretty smooth.  After bowling with this ball on a number of conditions and surfaces, I think this ball is cleaner through the front than a Vapor Zone, but still with very good mid lane rev.  The Apogee finishes on the back end better than my Vapor Zone.  The Vapor Zone needs a little more oil to be effective.  With my soft ball speed the Apogee will be better over more conditions.  This ball seems to spank the pins around better than my Action Packed, just as good or better than my Vapor Zone.

I would like to try one of these with a stronger layout, and some surface adjustments, see what the ball can do some heavier oil, like in PBA Regional play.

I think this is Columbia's best assymetrical ball yet.  Should be very versatile and tunable with different layouts.  Hope to see this core in some different shells.  This is a pretty good all around ball, good for league play and tournament/sport competition.  Straight players will want to add some surface for heavy oil, but should love this ball on league shots.  Tweeners will get the most use out of this ball, use your favorite layout and go to town.  Boomers/high speed players may need to make this a condition ball, but your mileage may vary.

I really like this ball, and I have to thank my man Shawn Morris for getting this to me.  He actually got it to me in early August, so I am thanking him late!!  Thanks Shawn, Columbia Bowls the World Over!!!

I laid my Apogee out the same as I had a Vapor Zone laid out that I wanted to replace: pin 4 1/2" from my PAP and 4 1/2" above the midline of my grip, and MB placed in a  25 degree position, it ends up being 2 1/2" from my PAP.  Out of the box, the ball motion was similar to my Vapor Zone, but a little too squirty.  I hit the Apogee with 2000 then 4000 Abralon pads and that made a world of difference.  Right now this is the best ball in my bag.  The Apogee is clean and picks up great in the midlane, with no quit on the backend.  For anybody looking to replace their favorite ball that is dying out, give the Apogee a strong consideration.

I just bought 2 Apogees. I don't know much about ball drillings, and I am left handed. 1st Apogees was drilled up with pin above ring finger, mb to the right of thumb hole. Ball in box was 3in pin out 3oz of top wieght. This ball goes long with a semi smooth back end Reaction. with very good carry. even with off hits. Ball drives through pins no defection. 2nd ball drilled up with pin over both fingers mb to left of thumb hole. Also small wieght hole. Ball in box was 3-4in pin out top wieght 4oz This ball goes real long with very hard turn into pocket. Pin carry AWSOME!!!!! On off hits carry is AWSOME!!!!!!!! Best hitting ball I ever had. No deflection.
Hits harder then 1st Apogee. Both balls get through the heads real clean. For me pocket gets bigger longer I bowl. Don't have to move much all night.

This is mine first ball review even though I own 12 different balls in the last three years. Within these 12 balls, the Apogee is my fourth columbia ball, which I love so bad.  I also own a G-Force and a Uranium HRG by lane1, which I purchased in the beginning of the year.  I purchased my apogee today.  I have a basic drilling on my apogee, and pin above ring fingere kick out to the B location which is shown in the columbia ball guide.  CG located under palm, mb left to thumb hole. Right off the bat, I notice a better reaction at my break point with the apogee, than my lane 1 balls.  Pin carry with this ball is awesome.  I really don't know why I chose to switch to lane 1 when columbia balls have help me bowls games as high as 279 thinks to 10pins.  I feel this ball gets through the heads clean and makes a nice hard flip on the back like all my other columbia balls.  Unlike my lane1 balls the pins stay on the deck, which gives me more pin reaction.  Right off the drill press, I bowl five in a row and then I changed my line to see what it can do.  The ball plays great, inside and out.  Hopefully with the pot money that I will win with this ball, I will be able to recover from the bad decision that I made from switching brands.  Columiba for LIFE..

This is my first shot at a review.  When I bought the Apogee I was looking for a ball that would go long and break to the pocket.  My pro shop layed the ball out to go long with a balance hole.  This ball has become the first ball out of my bag and over the last 8 series I have averaged 196 (ave. 180 & 184 ytd league).  This ball has worked well on the 38 foot pattern we have been bowling on the last month and has allowed me to play a completely different part of the lanes than I have in the past.  I normally start at second arrow from right and have migrated as far as 10 boards to left as the oil has broken down.  The apogee hits like a ton but keeps the pins low for excellent carry.

Balls speed 15.7-16 mph
Average Rev Rate
Average Rotation

Would recommend this ball to any tweener looking to play the up and in angles!

This was the very first ball I ever had drilled up for me. It was drilled not very aggressive, more of a beginner ball, and it played the part. Im sure the ball has WAY more potential than it displayed with me. I did bowl my high 246 game with it, however that was 100's of games after using it.

I am a low/med rev speed lefty stroker. The ball had some pop on the backend for how I threw it, but not a lot. After I got my Hammer Black Widow and Elite Black, my entire game changed. It is a good ball, but how I had it laid out may not have allowed it to display full potential.
