C300 EPX T1
« on: May 19, 2017, 12:53:39 PM »
At the time of posting of this just noticed there are a couple of C300 EPX T1 for sale on ebay.  Neither is NIB but seriously thought about it for grins.  If I hadn't already bought a discontinued NIB Lane #1 SB solid oiler (couldn't find an EPX at the time) that I can hardly use I would. Still guessing EPX are getting harder and harder to find.  Tempting to own the only epoxy ball ever made (and USBC approved) even if it smells and could crumble in the ball return at any time and is about the highest maintenance ball you could ever own.  No other ball ever made and perhaps none to come skid less in heavy oil than this ball though (good or bad thing depending).  Guess I will enjoy my smooth rolling much more practical Burgundy Hammer as I don't really see floods that could use an EPX.  Plus have to believe unless you get a NIB the odds of getting a fairly dead ball are high with this ball being the oil sponge it is and how long it has been discontinued.

>Unfortunately, the first few batches had mostly short pins.

Is 3" short or long for this ball?  Thank you.

Edit:  Nevermind, 3" is never short for a pin.

What I remember, or seem to, from then, was that A.M.F. was under the C300 groups control, and that all of the R&D for the epoxy ball was done by A.M.F.

The A.M.F. Staff guy at the time was Brian Voss. They brought out the epoxy stuff at a demo, and as stated earlier, had several different versions that went from hooking literally at his feet, to going dart straight off the back of the pin deck.

I remember those epoxy Velocity balls, I was very interested in owning a piece of history, and wanted to buy one. I was very cash strapped at that time though, and just couldn't afford it. 😔

I had an EPX T1 once though. OMG. Could not use it.

(Post altered to reflect correction) (But I do remember stories about him throwing them, so maybe those stories were wrong.)

The ENTIRE staff for AMF at that time was five- Supper, Fig, and 3 salesmen.  Not much R&D getting done by 5 sales guys.

Too bad the dumbed down epoxy balls never made the market as they could have replaced urethane and not carried so much oil down the lane.

If memory serves, Dick Weber was still staffed with AMF at that time. I heard him tell stories of those Epoxy tests where the epoxy balls would hook into the left gutter when thrown from the same line that would strike with other resin balls. Unfortunately, the roll out just never matched the hype. Hell, in some ways, it probably couldn't since so many people expected epoxy to revolutionize things the same way resin did.

Ok, imagine if you will... Epoxy + Dynamo core + Griips glove. You could hook it in the ocean!

Hey, I still have a Grips Glove lying around someplace. lol It was given to me by the designer during the early days. Maybe I should dust that baby off before next league season!

Not that anyone really cares but I finally did get that EPX and I tell you what it does stink bad.  Not in a organic smell way more a ozone burnt metal smell.  Have to keep the thing sealed in plastic in a single ball bag with a zipper to keep it from smelling up the closet.  I bet drilling those things is nearly rubber ball bad and holding off on drilling it for now.  Still not sure what I will do with it.  Supposedly unmatched on the very short sport patterns but considering just getting back into bowling and trying to get consistent again be a bit like a junior high kid playing a Stradivarius or something if I drill it and take it open bowling.  Not sure if I could stand to see it break.  That smooth roll I see in the handful of youtube videos for it sure looks like the roll I love with my Burgundy hammer.  Maybe I will bust it out if I can get good enough to do tournaments again.

Edit: Sprayed some monster tac on it just to clean it and the cover stock actually absorbed a good portion of it and make it look like I sprayed rubbing alcohol that was evaporating instead.  Weird azz material.

I think this ball will be a must have ball for those that are looking for something offers a great motion that does not stop rolling in the backend – it really continues through the pin deck! Very versatile ball… You will be impressed!

I think I am going to drill this ball sometime this fall.  As far as I know no other ball absorbs oil like the EPX so I could see it being useful for breaking down a pattern very fast or creating miss room in practice (plus possibly used to mess up someone else's line tee hee).  Probably get lots of dirty looks once people figure out what I am doing though lol.
