Columbia Throwdown
« on: August 19, 2014, 01:50:24 PM »
Anyone got any word on this ball yet? My wife found it while looking online at bowling balls online and literally started asking me for one. She fell in love with the colors lol.
She's been asking about upgrading from her Scout for a while and this my be the ball for her.

Does Columbia use a different core for lighter weight balls? She currently throws a 12lbs ball and trying to figure out whether or not this is the ball I should get for her.

Thanks.

This ball looks good. There are 2 videos on YouTube. I'm having a hard time picking between this and the GB2.

From looking at the specs, it looks like the core is the same just the numbers modified with the lighter weight

I think this ball looks better than the GB2 and the Honor from Ebonite. EBI has been putting out a lot of good products lately, but I think they are all hidden under the noise that Storm and Roto-Grip is bringing.

If everything is the same, I'm getting this ball for her. Use it as a early Christmas present for her.

I've never known the 'early Christmas present' idea to work.  I got in trouble anyway.  Maybe put some of that pink Columbia 300 thumb tape in a box for Christmas just to cover yourself.

Columbia needs a strong pearl

I have been throwing Columbia balls for quite a while and overall, I have been quite pleased. However, I would like to see them add more (strong) pearlized balls to their current product line. The Blur Pearl is a small step but it falls short of some of their earlier pearls (Vow, for one).

I threw mine tonight for a couple of games on breakdown of a 45' pattern, and it matched up really well, didn't overreact to the dry even with the polish.  Without the polish, I think it will look great on medium length/volume patterns, but I'll try that out before I say that definitively.

As for stronger reacting pearls...you could throw some polish on the TakeDown, that's a pretty strong pearl that has surface out of box.  The Crazy Antics covers some boards in the backend if you're looking for a pearl asymmetric.  For me, the Blur Pearl isn't enough ball on lots of volume, whereas the Crazy is, and if you want to define pearl by reaction shape, you could say the N'Sane rolls like a pearl even though it is a solid.

So I guess after that ramble by me.... I think it's too early to look for a Vow replacement.  If C300 did that they'd have to increase the number of releases to accommodate all of the product choices.  Maybe to start 2015?

I'd prefer that they put out quality balls, rather than over saturating the market with random and half a** attempts at bowling balls.

I'm not sure which Columbia balls you're referring to. The Eruption Pro and the Disorder are as good as any balls in the market within their respective categories. I just picked up the Nsane Antics. I've only thrown a few practice games with it, but I can already tell it's going to see a lot of action.

I'm not a Columbia homer by any stretch. I mostly have a mixed Storm/Motiv arsenal, but the Columbia balls I have are every bit as good. I'd rather the colors were more basic, but I'm more concerned with performance. Many Columbia balls deliver.

I wasn't talking about any balls from Columbia. I'm saying that I like that they are putting out quality balls and not just a bunch of trash to flood the market. Columbia has been putting out a lot of good pieces. I wasn't implying that the balls that Columbia is putting out are bad in any way.

The Throwdown is going to be a great piece! The colors are awesome (Yeah, I like colorful bowling balls. So what? hehe) and this is definitely the cleanest ball of the three in the line. I, like my teammate above, don't find the ball to be uncontrollable, but it definitely packs some bang for the proverbial buck! :D
