Difference in the two Wickeds
« on: May 18, 2003, 11:58:52 PM »
Has anyone thrown both of the Wickeds?  Whats the difference between the two?  Does the
blue/white snap harder?

Also, what new Columbia ball would be the nearest to the original Cuda C Pearl?

Any help would be appreciated.

The new wicked BRT starts up sooner and does not have as much snap.  I own the BRT and a friend of mine has the original wicked and his has better lenght, but is stronger off the dry.  The wicked BRT has a long coninuous drive to the pocket.  The Columbia hook ratings support what I have seen on the lanes.

Hope this helps.

Hey Dan, The BRT is made to roll longer than the original. Youll notice the difference in the RG's on both balls. As the original Wicked is designed more for heavier oil.

But you said the BRT rolls up sooner... I think thats because of the drilling layout you have on the ball that causes it to roll up early. Its made to roll longer actually.

BRT(Medium Oil):
Results in a medium Rg for more length and medium differential to reduce overall hook.
Creates a smoother arcing motion at the break point for more control.

Original(Medium/Heavy Oil):
Concentrates the weight near the center of the ball for more roll in oil.

I am also looking for something similar to my old and trusted Cuda C Pearl. Is either of the Wickeds close?

The Wicked B/R/T is a better match of core to coverstock. It’s a slightly stronger ball than the original Wicked. It’s a bit more even, with a little bit more hook in oil. Overall, not a huge difference, but I have found the B/R/T to be more useful than the original Wicked. It does start up a bit earlier than the original. Both Bowling This Month and Bowlers Journal rated the B/R/T as slightly stronger than the original Wicked.
Lastly, Columbia 300’s ratings bear out this difference. They rate the Wicked with a total hook rating of 47 and the B/R/T at 48.
The big difference is in how they arrive at the number. The original Wicked gets a 17 in oil and 31 dry backend rating. The B/R/T gets a 21 oil and 27 dry backend rating.

From the website of Columbia,

Surface of Wicked(oyster/blue) is finished by 2000degree polish.

Wicked b/r/t - by compound.

If finish their surface the same.

I think Wicked(oysyer/blue) hooks more.
