- Description: The Ransom Demand once again will give you high performance characteristics at the upper mid performance category. For the Ransom Demand we went back to the original Full Swing core that was found in very successful Columbia 300 products like the Pure Physics and Full Swing. In order to come up with the best performing product possible we tested this core against the Full Swing v2 core that was in original Ransom and found that this core gave us more options and performed at a higher level. We are using the second generation of our Super Tilt Solid coverstock, it is called Tilt Solid 2.0. This new is extremely versatile and due to its aggressive nature performed extremely well when mid-lane control and a smooth continuous backend reaction is needed. In order to choose a ball that fit Columbia 300’s performance standards we did extensive testing. Two versions of the Full Swing core along with six different coverstock options and three different colors schemes were tested in order to come up with the Ransom Demand. Due to the highly competitive market at this performance level we took our time and tested until we found the exact core, coverstock, color and finishing process that delivered the highest level of performance. This is the type of ball that bowlers of all skill levels will excel with due to its versatility and high level of performance. The Ransom Demand will have a bright green sticker placed directly below the logo. This sticker states that Columbia 300 is giving a portion of the proceeds of this product to four different bowling related charities; Juvenile Diabetes Research Fund (JDRF), Bowl for the Cure, Bowlers to Veterans Link (BVL) and The Bowling Hall of Fame. Columbia 300 is the perfect brand to partner with these bowling charities and their causes and we look forward to launching more and more campaigns that help give back to the great sport of bowling. We are in the process of setting up columbia300.com/give so we can explain this promotion in greater detail and find out which charity the consumers would like their money donated to.

Likes: This ball is very clean through the fronts,  and consistent motion. did a 50x4.5x30 favorite layout. comparison to the pure physics its sooner  and harder off the spot where as the PP was all roll motion. i would say over all its more ball than the PP, at least 6.5+ more boards. I'm loving the super tilt veneer. It seems to be very good for all my bowlers. All my customers loved the regular Ransom. This Demand will give them a good look for the higher volume patterns

Dislikes: none so far. haven't played with surfaces yet to see if it friendly

Ran$om Demand

Ball specs after drilling:
15lb 10oz
Box finish:  800-1000-2000-4000

This ball was first described to me as a Full Swing with a little more hook on the backend.  The Full Swing was a very versatile ball not only in its usability on different lane conditions, but it rolled well at 500 on longer/heavier conditions and well at 4000 on shorter conditions.  I never felt like the Full Swing was my favorite ball at any given moment, but I felt for about 16-18 months that it was a ball that I wanted to be able to throw at some point during a tournament.  That was the main reason behind the multiple surface changes; generally, I'll find a surface prep that I like for a ball and keep it there for the life of the product (or until I've thrown it for several hundred games and it just doesn't fit the same spot in my arsenal anymore...then I'll shine it up and use it on shorter/lighter volumes).  For the Full Swing, I always felt like it was good as it was, but there was the potential for greatness if I could just find the right surface prep for it.  I never did find "great", but no matter what surface I tried, it was always "good".  So, with that knowledge in mind, I was very interested to drill a Ransom Demand because I knew the target reaction for it was something that I had liked in the past, and I was wondering if the slight increase in backend hook would be the magical change that would take it to a "great" product for me.

I talked with John Furey, a fellow ball driller (Furey's Solid 10 Pro Shop) and accomplished PBA bowler, about ideas for a layout for the Ransom Demand.  The Full Swing had a 45*-5-45* layout with an extra hole 2" below my PAP.  We came to the conclusion that 65*-5.5-45* with an extra hole 3" below my PAP would be good to try on the Ransom Demand.  Our theory was that with this cover being more responsive to friction, we wanted the ball to have more forward roll to enhance controllability, while the cover would cause the ball to react more downlane than the Full Swing.

The results were very rewarding.  I've found the ball reacts best for me at 2000, although 1000 and 1000 with polish have also given me good results.  The ball revs up quick for me, but the cover allows it to push through the heads and wait until the midlane to kick into gear.  I've thrown it for about 20-25 games so far, and so far, it seems to be the hardest arcing product I've ever thrown.  It's not a skid-flip reaction, but it really does turn the corner hard, and the carry is very impressive.  I attribute part of this to the layout change and most of it to the new cover.  It works best for me when I want to get a few extra boards of hook on the backend; if the OutBurst can't cover enough ground, I can switch to the Ransom Demand to get the angle I need.  I can see myself switching back and forth between the Ransom Demand and OutBurst a lot over the next several months.

Compared to other recent Columbia 300 products:  Please keep in mind that I am an all-around average tweener: a medium speed, medium revs right-hander with some tilt.  Your ball-to-ball comparisons may vary!
The Ransom Demand is...
a little longer and a lot more angular than the OutBurst.
a little earlier and a little smoother than the Ransom.
a little earlier and a little more angular than the Burst.
about as long and a little more angular than the World Beater.
about as long and a lot more angular than the Full Swing.

Just as Columbia 300 has stated:  If you liked the Full Swing, then you should really give this ball a try.  The reaction characteristics are very complimentary, and the Ransom Demand will give you a great reaction across virtually every med/light to med/heavy condition you find!

If you have any questions, feel free to send me a message or leave a note on the forums and I'll try to get back to you soon!

Likes: If you loved the Full Swing and miss it like I do, then your prayers have been answered. Columbia 300 has brought back the Full Swing with more strength in the back. If you are not familiar with the Full Swing, it was a very versatile ball that excelled on many diffrent conditions and friendly with varying ball speeds and release styles.

Much like the Full Swing, the Ransom Demand has a nice heavy roll from start to finish, and creates vacuum like pocket hits with its angle of entry, and in my opinion, your carry percentage will increase.

Likes:This ball is amazing, very clean through the fronts but once it hits the backend there is all kinds of recovery. This ball comes 4000 out of the box, the cover shines up from the oil, but do not let that fool you. This ball opens up the lane very well on all types of lane conditions, this is a ball that Columbia needed to fill in the gap of there great line of bowling balls. Great job to Bugsy Kelly and Columbia 300.

Likes: The ball gets down the lane and then makes a viscous turn to the pocket. Reads mid lane well and does not hook early. Continues driving thru pocket. Keeps pins low for good action. Hits like a truck.

Dislikes: None so far. Have only thrown once on Demo Day. Liked it so much, I ordered one.

Likes: I have had a ton of success with the Outburst. This ball is awesome! It is very versatile on different patterns. I used a pin above middle finger layout  with the mass bias at 60 degrees. It is clean through the front, but it does not skid through the breakpoint. It continues it's roll through the pins and sends ridiculous messengers back and forth across the pin deck. This will be the first ball out of my bag now instead of the Outburst. If this is not in your bag, then your arsenal is not complete!!!

Likes:  Long patterns and heavy oil in the front is when you need this piece.  Nice arc and crushes the pins.  Recommend leaving surface as is unless you throw with speed and a lower rev rate.

Likes: If you are looking for a ball you can throw on most anything, you have found it.  This is one of the most versatile balls I have thrown from Columbia300.  I have it 65 x 5 5/8 x 45, puts MB right beside my thumb and have a small hole 1" below my axis on my VAL.  I am able to throw this ball on the house shot and have also used it at a tournament with Kegel Sunset Strip.  I was able to get the ball back from places others did not on this pattern.  It is very clean through the fronts and very responsive to friction on the backend.  I can get that "hockey stick" motion most people like to see.  The ball still stays true to the Columbia midlane read but has enough snap and continuation that we haven't seen in few years.  It is definately the first ball out of my bag on almost any condition and usually can stay with it for many games.  Definately a reason to try Columbia300 again!

Likes:I cant really say enough about this ball, etc. Its amazing on almost everything I see from house shots, to the heaviest/longest of patterns. It clears the heads with ease, not like most high performance balls. The surface is also very easy to adjust. I dont think they roll that great if very shiny...I would do 2000 Abralon or less if polish is applied.

Dislikes: Appeal maybe the only setback when trying to sell this piece. I personally like the look of black balls but most people dont. One other thing that is strange, is that all the stock photos may appear as polished but when seen in person, the ball has a smooth dull surface like all the other heavy oil balls on the market.

I have two Demands drilled up... Both balls are pin below the fingers, but one is "rico" drilled with the pin in the grip line. Even the "rico" drilled one clears the heads no problem. If you are wanting to try one of these you better get them right now for they will become extinct in no time! This ball will accomidate all bowling styles>>>period<<<!
