!!!Help Me Drill My Backyard Bully!!!
« on: August 01, 2005, 09:21:08 AM »
I just won a Backyard Bully in a raffle at a bowling tournament.
I have a med-low track...throw 17-18mph with high rp
I currently have two bowling balls
I have a Track Crunch Time with pin on top between fingers. The CG is kicked to the right a little. (Tame reaction)
I also have a Morich Weapon of Mass Bias with the pin on top of my middle finger.  The CG is kicked to the right.  The MB is around 5 o’clock. (Hook monster)

Both balls go too long at times, when there is oil (I know slow down the speed) and I would like a ball that can go shorter.

I am a little unfamiliar with ball and I would like some info on some possible drillings where I can maintain the same ball speed and the ball will hook sooner.  I want to have some variety in my arsenal.

By the way, the Back Yard Bully is 15 pound 3oz top, 4in pin.

Thanks in advance

If your Weapon of Mass Bias isn't moving early enough, then the Backyard Bully wont either, in my opinion. I have one, pic of drilling in profile, drilled for length and backend, and it performs very well in medium-lite oil. Second shifts this ball will be GOLDEN. The Backyard Bully might be similar to your Crunchtime though dont hold me to that. My Absolute outhooks this ball by about 10 boards easy. Both drilled similarly.

My suggestion, get a stronger ball than the WMB. If you like Morich, go with the Total Shock & Awe. The Epic also sounds like a "hook in the box". See what everyone else has to say.

I drilled atleast 40-50 backyard bully for customers, best success 4-5" pin down with x-hole over 1" and 2 1/2" deep.  And this ball really need some dry boards to help it stand up.

Maybe you can get your proshop guy to trade you for a Big Bully instead, that will hook sooner.

Drilling wise you could go with a leverage drilling 3 3/8 and put the cg on your axis that will make the ball roll early and set on the back end instead of snap. I figure if you have high speed and low axis rotation this drilling might work for you. You may not be able to do it if there is too much top weight.
