ONLY Staff Players Please Respond
« on: July 06, 2009, 11:51:44 AM »
I am looking for feedback on the new balls and how they play on the various PBA patterns.  Are you keeping the surface Out of Box, or tweaking.  What seems to be the best layouts for the various balls.  Basic info to help answer my question, my PAP 4 3/4 over no up or down, rev rate around 325, ball speed around 17.5 and I am right handed.

To get an idea of my type of ball, take the the power swing, pin above fingers on mid line, CG kicked 1.5" right of center of grip.  Kept at 4000 finish, work's well on longer patterns of 40+ feet of more for me.

Just ordered the Full Swing, Cool Noize and Freeze from the PBA offer, looking for layout guidance before I drill.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I know ALOT of staff players who are pretty ignorant when it comes to laying a ball out.

Just so you know.

You sure are missing out on great knowledge by only allowing staff members to answer your question!

I guess I shouldn't answer. I'm not on staff, but work in a well-known pro shop.  But what do I know lol.

I realize that I am injecting a large dose of negativity here, but 2 responders, running pro shops, who are 20 and 21 years old, leave a very large
gap in experience.  Don't bother telling me what you have done, you have not
lived long enough to have much experience.  It is a given that you know a lot,
you just haven't seen enough yet.

The Full Swing will fit nicely above your Power Swing on longer patterns. It will be your shark and scorpion pattern ball , it has more backend and miore overall hook then the Power Swing msking it really nice on these when you only need that 1 or 2 boards of extra room to miss right and still get it back. The new cover and new asymetric block match up really well, i believe this ball  or the bedlam could be ball of the year next year! i would drill it similar to your Power Swing with the pin location but make sure to keep your mb around 50 - 70 degrees.

The bedlam will be a nice step down from both balls as in length, this ball also can work on the shark and scorpion patterns depending on your lane surface, but most newer surfaces it is a little to squirty so it really really shines on chameleon and viper. This ball gives awesome length and great skid snap ball motion. I would try to pick this one up to round out your arsenal

The Cool Noize with a lengthy drill maybe a 5 or 5 1/2 pin could get it done on the viper and chameleon patterns, with your rev rate and ball speed i would keep the pin low with a low hole if you have a far enough pin out so its not to jerky down lane. This ball is really strong for a pearl, earlier and continous.

the freeze I havent had alot of time to play around with, from what i have seen it works well on cheetah and viper, i have mine drilled strong (3 and 4 inch pins) and left the surface oob on viper and dulled the 3 inch pin to 1000 on cheetah for a little smoother reaction. Hope this helps I am sure you will not be dissapointed !!!

First thank you C300 Barnes for your comments they are appreciated.  Second to Kidjete, hhsbowler, hammermike2000 and anyone else who might like to add their two cent's... I appreciate your comments, although I do not agree with them.  I have some great friends who have been drilling balls for 20+ years and they are damb good at what they do, however, they will be the first to admit they know more about their own staff ball manufactures then they do about the other ball companies.  In fact, staff members get the equipment usally two months before even the proshops, thus a great proshop owner is at a disadvantage when it comes to speaking about what they do and what they are really designed to do.

A staff player on the other hand, good or bad at least has the opportunity to use all the new equipment ahead of any of us, and in most cases has the ability to consult inside reps for additional inforamtion, again useful information that even the most seasoned proshop oporator does not have immediate access to for all ball companies.

So take your comments and your ego's and please park them at the door, because if you were really that good, you would not need to comment on this post, you would just leave your honest thoughts about the question at hand.

Thanks again "The Other C300 Barnes"

I drilled my Full Swing with the pin under the middle finger and put the MB 1.5" below and right of my thumb. Normally this helps me control my backend reaction but this ball kept coming.

I do not think there is a bad way to lay this ball out. I did changer the surface to 2000 for USBC after I had maybe 10 games on the original finish with the intentions of using it to start team event. In retrospect I should have left it alone. I ended up throwing a Cool Noize and it was great.

I drilled a Freeze win pin above the middle finger could not be happier. I have used it on the Kegal Patterns(Rt 66) and it works great
