The ROCK is an intense ball that features a break-through cover stock technology featuring Columbia's NEW exclusive TEC2 (patent pending) shell. TEC2 features an enhanced lane-gripping additive that bites through oil without hollow glass microspheres or hard particles found in other balls. The ROCK offers 4-5 inches of flare with a low Rg of 2.513 and a medium differential Rg of .046. This low Rg core, combined with our aggressive TEC2 shell, creates a strong hook in heavy oil. The core offers an efficient use of the dense mass that surrounds the ball's center. The ROCK has a hook rating of 26.5. The ROCK PEARL has a hook rating of 22.

We received the Rock and the Rock Pearl Monday. Chris drilled the Rock with a 5" by 5" drilling, putting the pin under his ring finger. Then sanded it with 600 and used 1200 degree polish on it. It shined up easily.

On a normal league night with first shift oil, this ball was able to get through the head clean and into the midlane without a problem. The Rock made its move around 40 to 45 feet and was 3-4 boards stronger than the Total Chaos, that is drilled similar.

This ball did well crossing pairs throughout the 4 game set. The Rock kept the pins low and didn't lose its energy throughout the night. I think this is another solid release from Columbia and will be a great ball to add to your bag.

Early reports were that the Rock outhooked anything, and we found on our normal house shot that the Messenger TEC cover a couple more boards. On a Scale of 1-10, I would give this ball a solid 8.5. This ball is easy to adjust the shell to fit most bowler, and with the proven Pulse core this ball will be the choice of a lot of bowlers.

This will be a fantastic seller for Columbia. They have came out with a hooking ball that will match up with many of the slicker tournament patterns. This ball HOOKS. But it doesn't quit like some of the other Columbia balls. This is a must ball for every tournament bowler. I have sold about 20 of these in the first week of having them in my shop, they sell themselves. I hope that everyone out there will like the ROCK as much as I do.

I've had this ball for a while now and I just couldn't get this ball to play well for me, I tried cover adjustments and the ball was too over under for me. So I drilled it up for a freind of mine who hits the ball a little bit harder than I do and he loves. This ball wants to hook as soon as it touches the lane and it is so smooth becase of the core in it and agressive cover. This would be my choice for heavy oil

I HAVE TO BE HONEST, I HAVE NOT THROWN A COLUMBIA BALL IN FOUR YEARS. WHEN THIS BALL CAME OUT, ALL THE HYPE INTRIGUED ME SO I GAVE IN AND PURCHASED IT. I HAVE MINE DRILLED 4X4 WITH THE PIN ABOVE MY RING FINGER. THIS BALL IS AWESOME, IT HITS HARDER THAN MY CARBIDE AND ALL OF MY MATRIX'S. THIS DRILLING GIVE ME GOOD LENGTH THRU THE HEADS AND A MINE BLOWING BACK END. I STAND 35 LAY IT DOWN OVER THE 15 AND BELLY IT OUT TO THE 6 AND IT COMES BACK EXTREMLY HARD. THIS BALL IS NOT FORGIVING IF YOU LET UP ON THE SPEED, IT WILL GO THRU THE NOSE AND LEAVE SOME NASTY BOOGERS. I HAVE TO THROW IT ABOUT A 1 MPH FASTER THAN THE CARBIDE. ALL IN ALL IT IS A MONSTER OF A BALL, IRATE IT A 10.

GOT THE ROCK SEVERAL WEEKS AGO AND HAD IT DRILLED WITH PIN ABOVE THE RING FINGER AND CG AT MID GRIP..I DON'T HAVE MUCH HAND IN TURNING THE BALL BUT WANTED THIS LAYOUT SO THE BALL WOULD GET THROUGH THE HEADS BEFORE TURNING SO AS TO USE THE BALL MORE OFTEN BEFORE THE LANES DRY UP...I CAN TELL YOU THIS..IF YOU LIKE THE BLACK CHAOS YOU WILL LOVE THIS BALL...I USUALLY PLAY STRAIGHT UP THE BOARDS BUT WITH THE ROCK I FIND MYSELF MOVING LEFT AND PLAYING INSIDE AND "IT WILL CARRY" OTHER BALLS I'VE HAD WOULD NOT HIT HARD ENOUGH TO CARRY THE CORNER PINS ON AN INSIDE SHOT...I'VE KEPT THE BALL IN BOX CONDITION AND WOULD SAY THAT THEIR 26.5 HOOK RATING MAY BE REAL...

To update everyone,

I just wanted you all to know I got the ball drilled with the pin(about three inches out) at about 1:30 and the cg offset about a two inches off to the right...i'm right handed. All I have to say is wow this ball loves oil. Take extreme caution when using this ball on dry or even medium lanes..... My ball is drilled for both hook and control(drilled slightly tame) and I by the end of the thrid game on freshly conditioned synthetics the ball is hooking an easy 25 boards. I would definitely suggest this ball as your heavy oil/ first shift ball. I sometime change my ball in the third game to my lesser aggresive ball, which happens to be my El Nino 2K. Anyway this ball is definitely a 9 on a scale of 1 to 10. The ball around 45 feet begins to make a left turn for the pocket. If explosive backend is desired...., you wont be disappointed

This ball for me have trouble carry tens pin out. I have another ball company ball that carry the ten pin better. But I still will try to use the ball to help me out on tougher lane condition that will let ball skid littlr better to carry the ten pin out

Drilled my Rock with the pin above fingers and mass bias in the strong position. I needed an extra on hole, which i placed 5 1/2 inches from the center of my grip.

This ball does hook quite a bit, even though I polished it pretty nicely with Black Magic. Overall , a smooth constant arcing ball, which hits quite hard. Basically this ball is a a stronger version of the original Red Pulse. Except this ball will definitely hook more in the oil than a pulse. Not a bad ball at all, just a bit on the pricey side.

Just had my rock drilled,This ball is a monster on oil! Ball was drilled stack leverage,with 7/8 finger and 13/16 side weight. I usually throw my hpd down and in but had to move 6 boards inside and throw out to 7 board with the rock, It went down the lane to 40 feet then made a consistant left hand turn to the pocket. shot 3 practice games with this ball and shot 191,220,221 if i could only pick up a 10 pin (missed 3) This ball is very predictable and hits vey hard on the back end I think columbia has scored BIG with this one. Rating it a 9,Keep up the good work columbia.

Got a few games on the rock and thought i would give it another reveiw,Went to my bowling house and shot 4 practice games 266,235,232,216 This ball is the best i've ever seen! The condition was heavy oil middle with carrydown stood on center dot on approach threw down 7 board and the ball came back HARD on the backend consistantly,I have been bowling this house 13 years and never thru a 700 in practice or league night. The rock is drilled up 3 3/8x3 3/8 stacked leverage with a small weight hole near the pap, finger holes located 1" left of center and pin is 2" above ring finger at 1 o'clock. This is an excellent drill for this ball. I first rated this ball a 9 I'm now rating it a 10+ I dont think anybody should not Have this ball in there arsenal.

I drilled the Rock out for 2 reasons. First I haven't been liking the reaction of my El Nino 2000 and second I have had a terrible time carrying with anything in a money league. I left the Rock in box condition and put the pin at 3 3/8 from my PAP and the cg at about 2 1/2. I needed a balance hole which I put about and inch below the PAP. I noticed two things about this ball that are really different from my other equipment. First, it truly arcs. Everyone talks about getting more arc and less skid/snap but this ball really delivers in that area. The other really noticeable thing was the lack of over under on a pretty walled up house shot. I found the Rock to be relatively strong when I stayed in the oil, but very controllable for a strong ball when I intentionally sent it wide into the dry. It will interesting to see whether it can retain these characteristics when the heads are a little burned or the track gets super dry. I see the Rock as a very versatile ball that will carry pretty good on a lot of conditions. It is cleaner through the heads than my 2000 or my riot zone, and smoother in the back end than my ARC. The Rock definitely replaces my 2000 and will go into the arsenal along with the ARC and RZ when I have some oil.

An update......, I recently had a great deal of problems controlling this ball on my newly renovated AMF synthetic lanes. As I had the ball driled at 1:30 with the CG set off about 1 inch I found that the ball would over react on the backend. I'm talking about really over reacting. I explained my problem to the my proshop operator and he suggested that I try polishing the ball up. He polished it up with the lowest gloss and I try it while he looked on. I must say that the ball did go alot longer, and fliped violently on the backend, hitting the pocket like a freight train. The bad part is that the ball is beginning to return to its unpredictable form. I originally bought this ball to attack the oil but have found a headache and a great deal of problems with this ball. I heard many bowlers near me complain about the ball being to jumpy on the backend, and now I know what they mean. This ball is still a hooking machine, but it's just not for me. It is to hard to predict and I have had a great deal of trouble controlling it thus far. If your finding that this is also happening to you, my proshop operator has suggested others to get the Rock Star..... that is if the "Rock Bowling Ball Line" from columbia is desired.

I agree totally with StormMan 300 view that this ball dies after 60 or more games. Both my son and I experinced the same thing and with my son who is left-handed he now uses the Rock to shoot his 7 pins.

i just bought this ball, shot it for the first time last thursday nite. used it for my first game shout a 265 the ball hits very hard, not a bad ball. will shot it again this thursday nite for 3 games will give another review on the rock next week
