900 Global ICE pads
« on: September 27, 2017, 09:51:39 AM »
Anyone tried these yet? Blockbuster Bowling has them for $7.95 per pad, so I grabbed a few.

I suspect it's similar to the NEAT pads, which are no longer available. But I have a stock of them anyway.  ;D

I saw that when I got an ad email from Blockbuster.

The blurb on them at th900G web site says they're of the same nature, but these are more refined, more precise and longer lasting. The price seems the same as NEAT, but the one "problem" is the grit range is much more limited: No, 500/7500/1000 and no 4000 grits.

Time will tell.

Yea, I thought the same thing, but after considering it a bit, realized I don't use the "N" pad very often anyway. With the NEAT pads there seems to be a significant gap between the A(2500) and T(4000) pads. More than the numbers suggest.

I'll give a quick review and opinion when I receive mine.

Scotch Brites and Trizact discs last so much longer and can cover from 240 (lower even) to 5000.   Sanding lines don't bother me though (in fact prefer them especially on urethanes to see when need touch up).

I've had a chance to use the new ICE pads and find them to be a viable option. In short, I like them for what they are.

With the limited selection of grits, these pads are obviously not meant for the heavy work of a complete resurfacing of a ball. You will still need 360, 500 and 1000 grit pads or sandpaper for that kind of work. In my opinion, these are more for the final finish of the ball and they do that well.

The pads are similar to an abranet screen with a 1/8th foam backing(if abranet screens had a backing). At similar grits, they seem to sand more aggressively than NEAT pads, but leave a better looking finish than Abralon pads.

As for longevity, I have only used them on two balls far so that remains to be seen.

I think the NEAT pads were a pretty big change from Abralon/Siaair pads as a finishing step. The ICE pads are not as big a change, but an improvement none-the-less.

Do you need these if you have NEAT/Abralon/Siaair/Sandpaper/Trizact/Scotch Brites etc that you are happy with? Nope.

Do you need these if you are a bowling geek like me who likes to try new things, "just to see how it works"? Most definitely.

Not sure about ICE but at least with the NEAT stuff I find abralon to be better for hand touch ups anyway.  NEAT pads are for great for the spinner though.

ICE would be perfect for a touch-up by hand, where the NEAT pads are almost a spinner only option.

ICE is only 1500, 2000 and 3000 grits though.

Agreed, I have a couple of Abralon pads in my bag as NEAT is useless without a spinner in my opinion. ICE would be a viable option to Abralon though.

Ah gotcha guess should do a minimal amount of research before posting lol.  NEAT are good with a spinner but nothing beats Scotch Brite and Trizact imo.

Looks like Blockbuster has the Ebonite branded Abralon for 4.95 and ICE for 7.95. ICE worth almost twice the price?

I prefer the surface the ICE pads leave. It would be interesting to compare the difference with a scanner.

If they have better longevity, perhaps. But if you get the same number or uses, then nope.
