Sanding a pearl....
« on: May 31, 2017, 04:11:13 PM »
I've heard it mentioned that Mo has basically said "to get a good oil ball, sand a pearl". I can see some rationale in that statement, and I happen to have a few pearls that are currently &*($%^&* me off, so I may have a volunteer or two. I've also got Nationals coming up, and not against taking a sanded pearl in the bag if it's worth it.

Has anyone tried? Feedback on the effort?

Thanks

I have sanded many pearls. My personal current favorites to do this to are the Hy-Road Pearl, and Code Black. The basic description of it is that it creates more friction and slows down properly and much more consistenly. I've heard many people say tht they think it's stupid to sand a pearl or shine a solid, but surface adjustments mean more than some realize. In todays world they can make a pearl read at your toes, but they are known to be cleaner and respond harder to friction.

Not sure of your specs, but I have a lefty friend thst doesn't put a ton on the ball and his speed is around 16 mph. His favorite ball is a Marvel Pearl at 1000 or 2000 depending on how the lanes are playing

I love lightly sanded pearls. My Nuts Pearl was at 4000, and it was a monster. The pearl causes more friction off the spot and the surface causes less squirt.
