Slip Agent.....please explain

I know that the man, Charlest will chime in, but I would like to understand about polishes with a slip agent in them like Val UFO.

Please pass on the Positives and negatives if there is any...thanks in advance

Basically they
1. put a high gloss polish on most balls, and
2. contain a substance that partially clogs the "pores" of resin balls, reducing (but not eliminating) the coverstock's ability to absorb oil. (As far as I know, a resin ball's hook capability is governed a great deal by its ability to rapidly absorb oil.)

The 3 main ones of which I am aware, Powerhouse Delayed Reaction, Neo-Tac Control-It and Valentino's UFO, use 2 different "slip agents". UFO uses what is termed an organic agent; I believe but do not know for certain that the other two use silicone. UFO's agent lasts about 25 games and can be easily removed with a mild or fine abrasive like a 4000 grit pad. The other two last much longer and need a rougher abrasive to remove the slip agent, like a 360 or 500 grit pad. All three (in my personal experience) need at least 2 good, solid, separate coats to insure an effective coating.

Prefect, thanks Charlest......know mention of reaction.....added length and meant for very dry lanes?

Both the high gloss polish AND the slip agent both add to the length. The slip agent also reduces the amount of total hook AND the amount of backend.

FYI I often find this process can modify greatly where you have to play AND it may reduce the hitting power of the ball. You often have to move much further outside; so that can make up for the loss of hitting power. Outside angles virtually always carry better than deep inside angles.

I would generally only suggest this treatment for your mildest ball, IF
a. you think it is a temporary condition, OR
b. you can't afford the next mildest (weakest) ball down from the one you have, OR
c. you already own one of the mildest current balls available and you still are having trouble keeping this ball on the correct side of the headpin.
