3oz side weight

Just curious if anyone has tried the new static weight rules out on a ball for this season and if you have your thoughts on what it causes your ball to do?

I don't even care about the static weights personally. Cover and surface is still the biggest factor in motion.

The only difference for me was I could go weaker on a layout and always make it stronger with another hole. Now you can't do that so I won't even experiment with a longer pin-pap unless I think it'll be a perfect match

If blueprint software is semi accurate 3ozs positive side weight vs 3ozs negative side weight has almost 2 boards difference in hook.

3ozs finger weight vs no finger weight had a 3-4 board difference in hook with their simulations. More finger weight being less hook.  Take it for what its worth.

Hey Ignite, follow up question to your info... Let's assume Blueprint is semi-accurate...

If 3oz finger gave less hook, can I assume you mean overall total hook and not hook down the lane? In the really old days, finger hook was "believed" to have greater length and more snap on the back, so I'd like to clarify. Also, does it follow that 3 oz thumb continues the effect?
Just asking for a friend  :) ... Thanks in advance

It shows more length and less total hook. So the hook is further down lane,  and less.  More thumb weight gives less length, and more total hook.

If drilling a ball with a 5" pin up and 5" pin down with equal finger/thumb weight the balls roll identical.  If the pin up has finger weight and the pin down has thumb weight then according to the software that is the difference in ball reaction which is very slight when going plus or minus 1 oz.  When plus or minus 3ozs the difference is more noticable.

That is what is simulated by the software.  Take it for what you will.  I do believe that proves a great point some have said for years.  Pn up vs pin down doesn't matter.  Pin to pap does.

So, to make I've summarized and understood.... a 4 inch Pin-pap with 3 oz thumb weight will start up the earliest of them all and provide the most "total" hook. What about shape?
Thanks for the info.....

No.  Too many factors.  4" pin up or down will be the same unless differences in finger vs thumb weight according to the software.  Shape will be dependant on the ball, the bowler,  the condition etc.  The ball with the most surface will likely start up the soonest.

That all makes sense of course, but I'm just curious as to amount of relative impact with other factors all being equal, and wondering if there is enough there to be helpful, since I fall in the category of those who believe in the value of weight holes for low rev bowlers, like me.
Oh well, still good stuff, thanks for doing all the work to theorize this far.

Doom, what kind of shot or shape is a Mix with 2.75 finger and side weight going to give you?  I'm guessing plenty of skid with a nice hook/snap at the end?  I love my Mix and I'm just wondering what the new rules will allow me to do with it.  You can order one with the specific finger and sides weights you want correct?

You drill them to have the amount of imbalance you want by moving the cg.

And I just said that to bring ignite out of the shadows. :)

Yes, we are allowed to throw Mix or Ice since we don't have a true spare ball yet. I was just looking over my list of stuff I want to carry and drill... and it's going to be a loooong day at the shop once I order everything lol. I'm counting 10 right now, and that's without a spare ball.

It worked, right?? It's like Bloody Mary!

Positive side weight makes the ball go long and snap hard.
