To our Flare tweaking Experts...so...OK

OK so I have these drill sheets from Brunswick....

Old Flare tweaking  Inside VAL(less Val) Past Val(more flare)
http://www.bowlwithbrunswick.com/downloads/info-sheets/Fury-Pearl.pdf

See weightholes page 3 and see drilling 2L I have and 3L I am thinking of trying in the ame house.

New Flare Tweaking  Down Val
http://www.buddiesproshop.com/images/Drill_Sheets/Brunswick_drilling_instructions.pdf

See Symmetric Length and Back end and Length drilling.

So what's the difference?  Much?  Not Much?

Do both flare increasing methods from these sheets increase the difference between all flare rings?

Do both Flare increasing methods increase the flare separation just on the later flare rings?  Or does Flare alwars get wider In the later flare rings as the ball slows down weighthole or not?

I believe in going for a 5 1/4 pin to PAP distance I am looking for push through the heads and then increasing flare down lane.....as a goal for a desired setup.  I have a ball of similar specs set up with a 4.5 pin to PAP quite nice.

Flare Twerkers?

If you believe in 5.25" pin to pap for the reaction you mention with no ball info how would we know if it needs a x-hole or not? Would it not be case by case depending on the ball and the reaction you see after drilling?

Then depending on statics and reaction determine a surface adjustment or x-hole or both if needed.
…… you can't  add a physics term to a bowling term and expect it to mean something.

LL,

 Have you seen this video?

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=c93ZRsWbF7U

It explains the differences in x hole reactions pretty well

LL,

This video demonstrates the difference in reaction with just adjusting the size and depth of the x hole in the same ball.

Juggs,

Thanks,  I have that video of NIck with the Variable weightholes stored in my favorites and forgot it.

What size are those weightholes, 1 1/4 inch?  Is that the maximum limit?  I forgot....

It appears that the weighthole beyond the VAL is a little more reaction than the weighthole down the VAL but they are close.  Is that what you see also?

Regarding the second video of the hole on the PAP that surprised me.  I always though of holes on the PAP as not affecting reaction based on
Mo's Gradient Balance holes
http://radicalbowling.com/uploads/downloads/radical-layouts.pdf

Never did I realize that larger holes on the PAP could increase reaction this much if my eyes are reading what I saw correctly from the second video above.  This as the size of the hole increased! ?  I am confused as to the P2 hole and the increase I see from a large hole in the video.

Regarding the P4 hole or double thumb.  I wonder how it compares to the old fashion past the VAL flare increasing hole?
I also still wonder if flare increases in the later flare rings as a ball slows down?  Or do the flare rings stay an equal distance apart based on the weighthole and flare potential of the core?

Regards,

Luckylefty
Finally I wonder,  How do you see  the difference in the Length and Backend drill to the length only drilling of the Brusnwick Symmetric ball sheet?

A hole at 3 3/8 from the pin will change the flare very little. Because 3 3/8 is equidistant from the top of the core and the side of the core. A hole shorter than 3 3/8 from the pin will reduce flare.  A hole farther than 3 3/8 from the pin will increase flare.  Max flare with a hole 6 3/4 from the pin . At 6 3/4, the position of the weight hole can change how the ball transitions.  In a symmetrical ball the position of the hole will act like a mini mass bias.  In a stronger asymmetrical ball the weight hole may not influence how the ball transitions because the built in mass bias of the core may have a bigger influence.
