IQ Tour Layout

This is the 2nd ball I'm picking up this week - thanks everyone for their help with the Hy-Road. Need a Layout for Sport Patterns - the Patterns lately have been 47' Scorpion, National Doubles, 35' Cheetah, 43' Scorpion, 36' ABT #8.

My stats:

18.5 mph
Rev - 300 - 325
Axis rotation - 70 to 90
Axis tilt - 10
PAP - 5 1/4 over 7/8 up

From what the layout masters told me this ball would be better suited as my Go-to ball in times of turmoil and complete bafflication (yes I did create a new word lol) on the lanes.

As always your help is greatly appreciated!!!!

If you want it for when you're baffled, why not just put your favorite layout on it?  Being a benchmark ball, you don't want a crazy layout or stray too far from your norm..

The only downside is the cover isn't as strong on today's oils as it was when it was originally designed.  I think making sure you drill it on the stronger side (usually the case with most people and the iQ series balls) and try to get it to pick up a bit earlier (either with surface or a low hole or both)

The ball is still great and the lower differential will give you some control when it leaves the pattern.  But it just isn't as strong nor as even rolling on today's oils as it used to be.  May be beneficial to find out if your center is using newer oil or older stuff.

This is why the Dare Devil Trick is popular as a stronger iQ Tour.  Newer and better suited for today's oils.

I would re-evaluate the meaning of the Storm drilling method.  From my understanding, the 1 in your drill equates to a 1" buffer between the VAL and the Pin.  This would most likely not be pin down unless you have a strange PAP.

I would defer to your pro shop guy for an actual drill.

I third this 'motion' I put my favorite midlane+backend layout on it.  The weaker motion with the stronger layout is pretty good!!!

I was going to say virtually the same thing.  With your specs, I'm not sure you're going to get much out of it unless you drill it stronger, and I'm finding now that in situations where I'd use the IQ before, I'm using the Trick now instead.  I drilled a new Tour and really don't ever use it.  Of course with the Tour, I joke that you could drill it over the serial number on the bottom of the ball and get the same reaction you'd get putting the holes anywhere else.  I haven't found different layouts to really produce much different in terms of ball reaction.  I'm on my 4th one with 4 different layouts and they've all acted the same.

Hope it works out for the OP. I saw on Facebok that he went with the Tour. However, this forum is pushing me closer to adding a Trick to my arsenal.

Luke, what would you recommend a higher rev bowler do for patterns around 38 ft on fresh heavy oil?

Depends on if it's a house shot or a sport shot.  If it's a house shot, may try to keep from pushing a bunch of oil onto the backend, and if it's a sport shot, I'd try to develop some friction without cliffing the shot.
