I recently bought a Yeti Uncaged on clearance. Not a bad ball. I'm liking it more as it gets a few games under it. On special right now, it's probably a semi-steal.

Have you ever bought 3-4 of a closeout ball and put different layouts on them to run your own comparison? Sure, it would cost a few hundred, but if there's really enough difference shown, that would be worth twice the price. Seeing a high rev player throw different layouts isn't showing me anything.

I'm seriously considering the purchase of 2 additional Uncaged with different layouts (yes, I have some in mind) and seeing what develops. There's the opposite theory however, that a low rev lefty bowling on a surface normally slicker and less changing than a righty won't really see that much difference.

Thoughts? Value in this approach? Anyone else ever do this?

I've done that with two balls before. Depending on the layouts, you may see a big difference or not much at all. I noticed a bigger difference on sport patterns.

Most recently, bought two Reax V2 Solids and had one drilled with a normal layout and one with a Lower Track layout (I have a low track). I noticed a big difference for me between those two balls.

I always think if I don't like the ball reaction with a layout, I can have it plugged and redrilled.

Yeti Uncaged - I have one and am liking it more and more. I don't think you can go wrong with buying a few more at the current sale price. I just bought another.
