Is this a layout for a lefthanded or a righthanded bowler
« on: September 19, 2017, 09:07:37 AM »
Hello everyone,

I am playing with a ebonite pursuit for some time now. But i can't get much hook out of it. Only on dry backends, but thats not what its meant for.
I asked the driller for a skid/flip reaction.
Some friends say its drilled for maximum length and some even say its drilled for a right handed person.

Can someone tell me how en for what reaction its drilled?

My style: Lefthanded tweener. Around 26 km/h (=16m/ph)

Thanks in advance
Derek

PS: sorry for my english

What does "...drilled for a right handed person." mean? Was the ball drilled for someone else?

no its drilled for me.
But some say the pin should be above the left finger for a lefthanded and its drilled above the right.

Some people don't know what they are talking about, but will be glad to tell you anyway. You will probably be better off listening to your pro shop guy and not the people you bowl league with.

Your driller gave you what you asked for. There is no right or left handed drillings, just different pin to pap distances. On oil, skid flip is going to be weak since it's waiting to see friction to hook, then when it sees friction, it would release all of the energy very quickly. Personally, (not knowing your personal axis point) I'd say he should have drilled it to flare a bit more, but then it wouldn't be as "skid flip".

Being a pro shop guy is a horrible double edged sword. Giving a person what they want and what they actually got is a tough balance.

Hi Derek. Your English is fine. As a fellow lefty who had balls accidentally drilled right handed as a kid, I can only say it is a bit unusual and possibly weak layout, but without knowing your PAP and how you bowl, we will all be only guessing. We can't know. The people who tell you it's drilled for a righty do not know, and are saying it because the pin is right of the middle, but that means nothing because it's all based off your PAP, which we don't know. I can say that your ring finger looks to be longer than your middle, which is correct for a lefty. if I were to see a Pursuit drilled like that for me, it would be weak and only hook on dry backends. In my case, it would be because the Pursuit was more of an oiler and was burning up on my light oil condition. But, like all the others should say, I'm not watching you or know how you bowl. I've just had a similar experience and that's all I can offer. Hope that helps a little.

The problem with that is, that the proshop doesn't exist anymore :)

You can always plug and redrill to your desired layout and where you want it to read/pickup/hook  on the lane. But as mentioned, have your pro shop operator watch you bowl, and determine your PAP.

I went today to a different proshop and bought a new ball, with different layout.
The pursuit i have was not an usual layout, but it was not bad either. Usable for both left or right handed. It was drilled for revving up very late. Perfect for slower speed players or very high rev players. In my case... impossible :).
But its good for drier lanes, so its stays in my bag. I like the hitting power after all.

This proshop guy really took his time to watch me throw and advised me a track "kinetic", a midrange ball with low rg and low diff. I had it drilled for medium hook. The result... in one word WOW. I could play the line i always wanted on a fresh house pattern.

Thanks for all your advice
