This has probably been covered before but i'd like to know what kind of reaction i will see with this drill on a Lane 1 pearl uranium. Pap is 3 1/4 not sure about tilt and axis. I know i have a lot of side roll. Thanks

It promotes a slower response on front to back friction as well as side to side and merely enhances the balls characteristics

For me, I like the Rico drill on the fresh, because it blends out the wet dry, and I can really jack on it, and not watch it go nuts off the dry. Since it does promote a slower response to friction, it's not really a ball I can play far in with, but it wrecks playing further out. I'm currently about to drill a Sure Thing with this layout. 2.49 RG with .043 diff.

i'm a slower speed bowler, revs are about matched. track is on the lower side. i tried the rico layout for the first time last week on a shatter and it's not as rolly as I expected.. it's definitely smoother off the back than other balls i've had but the carry has been pretty spotty so far for me. I havent thrown it on anything heavier or shorter yet though. it's probably going to be a practice ball for me because my pin down hyroad outshines it, but it's not terrible

I tried a Rico drill on a weaker ball before, and didn't like it. http://123bowl.com/ball.cfm?ballid=2084 I also didn't put a large hole down where it should be, and the diff was very low. It made it very conditional. I couldn't get in with it, and playing up the track, it puked on me. If I was going to do a Rico drill on a RG ball, it would have to be either an Asylum or if I was going Storm, a Reign On.

I'm hoping i can use this drilling when the lanes start to transition. If i get it out to far right with my other ball it jumps off the dry.

I would knock the surface down to slow it down so not so responsive in the dry

I have a Rico drill on an elite green alien and I love it. Very rolly and not overly jumpy on the back. Just delivered a Columbia 300 epx t1 to my ball driller to have him put a Rico drill on that. It seems like one of the better pours from Columbia, so I hope it doesn't crack or die. My typical ball speed is anywhere from 15-16mph and 300-350 revs

How does it differ from the 2 inch pin to pap drilling that is often recommended for side to side wet dry.

This 2 inch pin to PAP drilling seems to puke in my house which has a strong side to side wet dry but it also seems to demand quick response to friction to hit and carry.

Talk about the differences between these two setups if you will.

the 2" layout gets the core to stabilize early so it spends all its energy early. this will give you a hook/set type shape so the ball doesnt overreact to the friction at the end of the pattern. the RICO layout will get you more length than the 2" layout but respond to friction more evenly once it starts the hook phase downlane compared to a "normal" layout

I find the rico drill does even out the reaction of the ball for me but it also allows me to play deeper lines because of its rolly nature for me. I have found that i can make a simple hand change and be able to play a variety of lines with the same ball. I will be picking up my epx t1 on monday with a rico drill and will see how it does for me. will try to use it on a variety of lane conditions as well since the alien has done so well on a variety of patterns
