LANE CONDITION

Length:  THS and Route 66 pattern

Volume:  Med to Heavy

Type (THS, Sport Pattern etc):  THS and Sport

COMMENTS

Likes:  Drilled my Grudge Hybrid with a pin above the ring finger and cg kicked out to the right about 1 inch, mb just right of the thumb and a x hole on the p2.

I needed a strong hybrid that would push through the front of the lane, this ball completely fills that hole in my arsenal.  On the house shot, I was still forced left as the new Grudge is only about 4 boards less than the original Grudge.  The real difference is that I can stay with this ball for more than a game as it does not pick up early and makes its move a lot further down lane.
On the route 66 pattern I actually started with the Ultimate Nirvana as that ball has more mid lane for me, once the heads starting getting a little burned I switched to the Grudge Hybrid and was able to play the same line I was at with the Ultimate, but was able to clear the heads with ease.  If you are looking for a strong hybrid ball that you need to still be able to push down lane, this is the ball for you.....

DV8 Grudge Hybrid

Left Handed
PAP: 4-7/8x1/4
Rev Rate: 355
Speed: 18.5 mph at release
Rotation: 40°
Tilt: 11°

Drilled 45x4-3/4x35
Lane conditions: 43ft 11:1 25.5mL THS and 43ft 20.3mL 2012-2013 PBA Shark

     The Grudge Hybrid is the second release in the Grudge line. While the original Grudge handles the heaviest of oils and provides bowlers with a strong, smooth ball motion. The Grudge Hybrid is cleaner and much more angular down lane. This is a great step down as the lanes transition and you need to chase it in and open up your angles. Don't be fooled though, the Grudge Hybrid still uses the fast revving, low RG Grudge core, and the Composite Hook Hybrid cover is still plenty strong. This ball will be best on medium-heavy oil conditions.

     I decided to drill this ball with the same layout that's on my original Grudge. On the THS, I had to move 3 board left of where I was with the Grudge but the shape on the backend was much more angular. The Grudge Hybrid allowed me to relax and not worry about the shots wide of target down lane. With the cleaner reaction in the front of the lane, it allowed the ball to not lose energy too early and hit weak in. Instead, the ball had good continuation through the pins and enough pop to send the pins flying. On the Shark pattern, the Grudge Hybrid was strong enough to use at the start, but afforded me less miss room than the original. I liked the look, but with the 43ft pattern, and being the lone lefty, I decided to wait until I had taken a little more oil from the end of the pattern and allow me a bigger target window. Once the lane started to transition, I was ready to open up my angles and let the ball shine. I love hybrid balls because they give you the best of both worlds, a little more traction in the mids like a solid and a stronger response of the dry like a pearl. I will report back with how it looks on some medium length sport and challenge patterns. This ball will be right at home for many league and tournament players. Low rev guys are going to really like the motion they'll see on the backend.

Layout::::   50 X 4  1/2 X 45
Box Surface
Rev Rate ::: 300 - 325
Ball speed:::: 16 mph
Condition:::::40 ft.  House shot

The Grudge Hybrid is the second release in the Grudge line. The Grudge Hybrid uses the low RG Grudge core which I like Low RG balls.Grudge Hybrid is longer than my original Grudge but still gives me a more angular motion down lane into the pocket than the original Grudge.
I saw about 3 boards less than the Original Grudge on the fresh.
Halfway into the second game as I broke the lane down I have to make a move about 3 boards left and open the lane up a little more. If I missed  a little right with the shot I wasn't worried about the ball not having enough to make pocket.  It definately gives you margin for error when the lanes open up.The Grudge Hybrid compliments the Original Grudge perfectly.

The layout I chose on my Grudge Hybrid was 5" off my PAP, pin straight above the bridge, with a 3/4" weight hole 3" deep on my PAL.

Left at Box surface
Tested on a 40' House shot
HPL lane surface

The first thing I noticed about this ball is how smooth it is throughout the lane. It is clean through the fronts until about 2 games through then it had a tendancy to pick up the lane quickly (After a 3 board move right with my feet and a 1 board move right with my target I was back online.) The Grudge Hybrid is very archy but very strong, it doesn't have that violent snap on the back, it has that very hard rolling motion. Its definately great for the first ball out of the bag!

The Grudge Hybrid is a great addition to the DV8 line of products. In my current arsenal, It is about 3 boards weaker than my regular Grudge and Vandal Smash. It is about 1.5 to 2 boards weaker than my Ultimate Nirvana, and it is 1 to 2 boards stronger than my Deviant Solid. Hopefully, this can paint some kind of picture as to the place this ball will have in a tournament arsenal. I have it drilled with the pin 1 inch above the bridge, the CG is under the ring finger, and the mass bias is just right of the thumb. The Grudge Hybrid has proven to be great for me on medium to the lighter side of heavy oil. It will get clean enough through the heads for you to use it on into your set, but it rolls early enough to help carry the corner pins. It is great off the turn, and the pins fly all over the deck. I would recommend this ball to anybody who is looking for a transition ball on heavy oil. Or, if you are looking for a good starting ball for normal house condition, the Grudge Hybrid is DEFINITELY for YOU!

This new version of the Grudge gave more length and a much stronger motion off the breakpoint with continuous motion through the pin deck This ball gives extra length than the original Grudge and saved its energy until it hits the pins This is a versatile ball and it is especially made for heavier oil.

My name is Bryan L. Williams and I am a PBA Member and DV8 Regional Pro Staffer.

DV8 is continually revolutionizing the bowling industry with our balls and once again, they have not disappointed in our newest addition to the DV8 line:  The Grudge Hybrid.  The Grudge Hybrid is an absolutely incredible ball and complements to the original Grudge.  First night I threw the Grudge Hybrid, second game, I shot 300 with it.  Like the original Grudge, the Grudge Hybrid maintains its motion at the break point and through the pins, with incredible predictability.  The Grudge Hybrid will give you a little more length down the lanes, but increased backend ball motion at the pin deck.

My layout is a very smooth drilling with the pin above and between my bridge, while my CG is near my palm with the mass bias just to the right of my thumb.
The DV8 Grudge Hybrid is another phenomenal ball in the DV8 line.  More and more people are discovering that DV8 bowling balls are second to none in the market today!  DV8…if you don’t have one, you are just not bowling!!! DV8…Tonight We Bowl! www.dv8bowling.com; #dv8bowling

BALL SPECS

Pin Length: 3 inch

Ball Weight: 15lb

DRILL PATTERN

X Hole (if there is one): yes

BOWLER STYLE

Rev Rate: medium

Ball Speed: 16

SURFACE PREP

Grit: 2000 ( comes 4000 OOB )

Type: (Matte, Polish, Sanded): sanded

LANE CONDITION

Length: The grudge has plenty of length, I actually had to change the surface to 2000 to help it read the lane a little sooner. At 4000 for me it had a little to much length for the patterns I wanted to use this ball on. At 2000 it read the lane a couple feet sooner and was still really strong off the spot.

Volume: medium

Type (THS, Sport Pattern etc):

BALL REACTION

Length: good length

Back End: very strong

Overall Hook: The Grudge Hybrid is a great ball for medium to heavy oiled lanes. This ball gets down the lane nicely and is really strong off the spot. The Grudge makes THS look extremely easy.

Midlane Read: strong off the spot

Breakpoint Shape: sharp

COMMENTS

Likes: I really love this ball, at 4000 it was giving me a little to much length and was smooth on the backend. Once I hit it with a 2000 Abralon pad this ball really came to life even more and was stronger off the spot

Dislikes: can be a little to long at 4000 if drilled for length

LANE CONDITION

Length: 41

Volume: Medium

Type (THS, Sport Pattern etc): THS

COMMENTS

Likes: The DV8 Grudge Hybrid is longer then the original Grudge with more backend reaction and continuation. My layout 70x4.5x45 is the same one I used on my original Grudge. I had my original Grudge polished due to it being to strong and wanting that added length, now that I have the hybrid, I put the original back to factory. The hybrid has the same strong hitting power as the original, it just provides you with that added length and pop that the original does not have when you have to move deeper on the lane. You can definitely open up the lanes with this ball.

In comparison to my other DV8 oil balls I would say: Grudge (front to back), Grudge Hybrid (all around), then the Thug Life (left to right).

I have used this ball on all types of patterns and with the strength it has in the back the pins don't stand a chance!! I have used this ball on inside and outside shots and the motion on this ball is unbelievable!!
