Nationals Ball Selection

Current lineup/options:

This will be my first time bowling a nationals event, and will be flying in from NH. Now due to how expensive it is to ship bowling balls, I wanted to bring 4, maybe only three. Now since the pattern is not being released this leaves me somewhat clueless as I have never been. I think the best option is to be very well rounded. I was thinking of bringing the Pitbull, Fanatic SS, Vandal Smash, and Quantum Fire, as this would give me 2 Symmetric & 2 ASymmetric balls and ranging from strong heavy oil to burn with the polished Fire.  I'm also really bored at work, so looking forward to your responses. I plan on taking my Vandal, as I had success with it last year in D & S. I honestly don't know a whole lot about your other weapons, but all I know is most of us will need something smooth on the fresh during the team event. I haven't figured out that weapon for me yet, but it will definitely be an symmetrical with some surface (2000-3000).

I shipped 4 to and from Cleveland last year with BBE, paid around $160 round trip...how pricey is it for you from NH?

I looked up the shipping on Bowl.com with the UPS deal, and it was roughly $90 one way to Vegas for 4 balls. The Vandal line is my benchmark reaction for sure, and use the Smash the most right now.

I can flatten my wrist to shoot 10 pins, dont use one for league and sport patterns currently. I do have practice time on Friday, and bowl on Sunday so if I have trouble I was planning on buying a super cheap one out there if need be.

I can flatten my wrist for 10 pins too. I still suggest using a spare ball on tough patterns. Especially with early word being that the team pattern is hooking.

Team pattern hooks early then you will run into carry down and have to chase it right (Right Hander) early in game 1.  By late 2nd game and 3rd game you will have to chase it left.

We've got one of these guys going in our group this year for his first appearance......this is his exact plan.  "I'll just flatten out the wrist man for the 10 pin and hook at left side spares....".  I cannot express enough the confidence he has in this plan.

To be fair, at least you have some sport pattern experience....this guy has none.

It will be interesting to see how this pans out for him.....

If Team is hooking close to what early reports suggest, I would say not very well.....

This is a cat that will only learn the hard way......unfortunately.  He literally has no clue what he's in for.

Plastic spare balls are over rated and the lanes never got overly torched at Nationals.  Assuming that you are killing your hand and going straight at your spares with a balance of revs/speed, my bag would look like this:
Pitbull (or Grudge depending on layouts) to break the shot down in practice and groove in the track game 1
Fanatic SS to be your "benchmark" for the meat of the block
Freakshow Pearl for when it breaks down
Vandal Destroy w/o polish for opening angles if your pair has been broken down "properly" and you want to open up your angles

I'd leave the Outcast at home (I doubt the lanes will be THAT fried) but all of the other balls are valid options depending on layouts and surfaces

The Pitbull and SS plan of yours matches exactly my line of thinking, the Freakshow is interchangeable for me with the Fire. The Vandal Destroy without Polish, what surface would you suggest 4k?

I would think if he practices enough he wont have any issues, and he can increase his speed if the ball is starting to hook on him or move his eyes more to the right.

worst case is during my practice session I will go pick up a cheap up and then just leave it there after.
