Elixir Pearl
« on: December 31, 1969, 06:00:00 PM »
Ball NPS Score: Not Available
The Dyno-Thane Elixir Pearl features the same tri-stack design as the
original Elixir. A dense iron oxide "Dyno-Sphere(tm)" inner core is used to
create a lower Rg (2.525) for consistency in mid-lane reaction enhancing the
backend hook. Encompassing this core is a pearlized GT(tm) (Gripping
Technology) particle cover stock for more ease through the heads, added
traction in the oil and an exceptional backend reaction. The surface of the
GT(tm) cover stock can be easily adjusted with polishes, sandpaper or
Scotchbrite(tm) for a specific reaction on most lane surfaces. The
specifications are: Weight Block: Tri-Stack design with Dyno-Sphere inner
core; Cover stock: GT(tm) Pearl particle; Weights: 12-16 lbs.; Finish:
1500-Grit Polished; Color: Deep Red/Purple; Pin Position: 0-5"; Radius of
Gyration: Low (2.525); Differential: High (.059); Flare Potential: 7" plus;
Hook Potential: 22/18
Dull/Shiny.

This is a power pearl and can make a strong turn/flip toward the pocket. Great addition to the Dynothane line.  All the other balls in the line have the tendency to arc.

The ball was drilled 5 ½ X 4 ½.  Pin above the fingers.  Due to a short distance between the pin and cg, ended with 1 oz finger and ¾ side.  No balance hole.  This ball was drilled to turn the corner and it does.  The pearl cover helps the ball get down the lane well.  Perfect when lanes start to dry and there is carrydown.  Drilling may be too strong for a wet/dry condition.  I can hook the lane with this ball and not worry about rollout.

I throw with medium or medium slow speed.  Some revolutions on the ball, but not alot of turn.  Have a high track.

Drilled mine tonight, used a 5 1/2 x 4 1/2 drill pattern, ended with 1/2 positive side. Left the factory finish and tested on synthetic lanes. I was able to compare it to several balls on various patterns. The first was a very tight pair oiled heavy 7 to 7 with some carry down. Tried first my dull elixir with some success and also my Black Rock, neither ball really was able to turn the corner to carry the corners out. Well the Pearl Elixir was able to flip enough in the carrydown and still carry. The second pair I bowled on was a 10 to 10 shot and not much carry down. I compared it to my Rock Star, and found that I was able to cross more boards and open the lane up and still carry. The last pair I tested it on was a pair that was absolutely flooded, and the only ball that I was able to even get a hint of flip out of was my dull elixir.

I have had tremendous success with my dull elixir on many conditions, and now that I have the pearl elixir I have a ball that can turn the corner harder when my dull elixir just will give me the finish i need. I feel that my having both elixirs in your bag, you cover just about every lane condition out there, except for the driest of lanes and that is where the Crisis steps in.

If you haven't tried a DynoThane ball, get yourself one, you won't regret it.

I have owned my Elixir Pearl for about a month and have used it on a late shift Wednesday night league a total of nine games.  The impressive quality of this ball is the carry; I have left very few corner pins on pocket hits that were not deserved.  This ball is, however, not for use on dry conditions; if the lanes are dry don't even pull your Elixir out of the bag.  If I were rating this ball I would give it a 9.5 on a scale of 10.

Dynos!

Wow!

I got to see a top money winner in Vegas throw this ball in a ball test!
Lucky me.  I don't normally report on other bowlers but this was so impressive I had to.

Ball was used in a three ball test El Nino Gold, Dynothane Elixer Pearl, and the Too Hot!  All three balls were drilled the same for our medium to high speed, medium revs righty.  For this 4 1/2 with 5/8 up PAP star the ball was drilled label leverage. 3 1/2 X 4 1/2 with the mass bias on the track.

The balls in overall strength were the El Nino Gold, Dynothane Elixer Pearl and then the Too Hot.  6 boards on the approach seperated each ball.

The Elixer Pearl was the most impressive of them all!  Clean thru the heads on this medium condition with a stronger backend than most other particles I have seen and tremendous hit and carry.  This ball was carrying on flush and on all light with tremendous mix.  Over and over this ball carried on light which I believe is the best strike on strong backend conditions (which were present!)

The pocket percentage and control of the midpoint were better than the other two
strong moving reactives.

I had seen a slow throwing bowler try to throw the Dynothane Elixer Solid and it was just too much ball.  This ball is a much better match of core and cover. I believe this ball contains all the best qualities of what particles were designed to do.  Almost as long as a reactive, just as much hit, and more control of the breakpoint and higher pocket percentage.

This ball is definitely the class of the pearl particles along with the cuda 2000s and an unsung star!

Anxious to try myself as a medium to slower speed bowler. I'll report then.

Regards,

Luckylefty

Picked this ball up used and wanted to give it a whirl. So I drilled it the other night and all I can say is WOW!!!!!!

Specs:
Pin out 1.5"
Top weight (plugged) 3.25 oz

Post drill statics:
Top :3/8 oz
Finger: 1/8 oz
Side: 1/2 oz

Drill Pattern:
Modified 12:00 stacked with weighthole 2" below PAP on VAL
Grip center shifted down 1.5" to put pin above finger to PAP line
Specs after shift: 3-1/4" x 2-3/4" (Pin to PAP x CG to PAP)

Surface:
Ball was completely refinished to 1000 grit and polished with Storm 1,2 and the XtraSHine

The test shot was a 2nd shift shot. Prior league was a 3 man and lanes were fresh prior to that shift. 60 units in the center out to 5 outside of 10 with the standard KEGEL tree pattern.

The Pearl played smooth from anywhere on the lane. It cleared heads cleanly and started to rev at 35-40 feet and carried thru the pins with amazing power. I have never left so many 9 pins and from a pretty steep angle (for me anyway).

This ball hit and hooked every bit as well as my Trauma ER drilled 4-1/4 strong. I am liking this!!! Maybe a solid Elixir is needed in my bag?

I have one of these critters NIB and think it'll be awesome.

Great job Dynothane....a sold 9 out of 10

WOW do i love this ball.  i am pretty new to bowling.  i've been bowling for about 8 months now.  started off using house balls then went to the silencer.  then i got this ball for christmas.  this ball hooks so much more then the silencer.  i have to use a lot more boards for the elixir then i did with the silencer.  my bowling alley uses a standard christmas tree pattern.  this is a great ball!  i give it a 9 out of 10.

I love getting to throw lots of new stuff.  I really love to throw new stuff that is good stuff.

Specs:

15 lb
3" pin
2 1/2 TW

Drill specs:
4 1/2 X 5 1/2 (over the label with pin next to ring finger)
Box finish with an extra coat of Black Magic

I realize that this is an older ball, but I can't drill all of the new stuff right after it comes out.

Anyway...  Yes, this is a particle pearl and a fairly aggressive core, but you must understand, this is NOT an oiler.  Tested the Elixir Pearl on 2 shots, 40' house shot and a shorter pattern sport shot.

On the house shot, I thought that the particle cover would work well swinging the oil....WRONG.  The Elixir Pearl is not a big fan of flooded heads.  In fact, I left some 5 pins with this ball swinging the oil.  After shooting a buck 70 the first game, the Elixir Pearl got bagged.

On the drier sport shot, the Elixir Pearl livened up.  Our sport pattern is currently 34' and the standard 2 to 1 across.  I learned that if the Elixir Pearl has some dry to get it started, it is a wonderful thing to have.  On this short pattern, the Elixir provided a smooth, strong drive to the hole when my other balls were too flippy or just plain flat.  It went 2-3 feet longer than my Remedy, but had a similar reaction.  Reminded me of an Eraser, but smoother and a little more length.

Overall, the Elixir Pearl is a definite winner.  It is not something to pull on a flood, but for most league shots it should perform nicely.  Given the reaction I saw, this is a great control ball.  The Elixir Pearl gets through the heads and makes a smooth move from the mids on.  I don't see this as a bank the dry type of ball, but I could see it perform on just about any other angle.  Crankers will love the control, tweeners will like the way it clears the heads, and strokers could kill you for days going down and in with this Dyno-Thane product.

Drilled this one up for use on medium conditions. Pin is above ring finger with the MB under the thumb to smooth out the backend. Applied some Black Magic polish for a little more length. Another readable breakpoint with a strong continuation on the backend. A definite drill for medium conditions, if you can still find one.

Consider this ball your next purchase for dry to medium lanes with good backends.  I just bowled in my city tournament with this ball and used the Ebonite quick sand to remove the polish and it takes the ball to 1000 grit.  I shot 600's all the way on a every tough condition and had a 299 game as well.  Beat that, for a pearlized ball.  I can't wait for the cure pearl.

This is a 14# ball with a 2.5 inch pin. I forget the topweight. It was drilled with the pin slightly above and right of ring finger with the cg kicked way out and a weight hole. I treated the ball with Doc's Elixir.
I am currently experimenting with a no thumb high rev medium speed release. That is how this ball was tested. I am tracking right at the middle finger hole and about an inch or so from the thumb hole.
This ball did not match up with my new release at all. On oil the ball just skids. On dry the ball takes off. MAJOR over/under problems. The ball goes very long and then makes a late huge hook in the last 15 feet. This is fun to watch but scores poorly as splits are very common if you make even a small mistake. I used scotch brite pads on the surface. This evened out the reaction a tad, but I was still over under. It is my biggest hooking ball on dry and near my smallest hooking ball on oil. I just can't find a use for it.
What's funny is that this style of ball fit my old style well as I had a lot of forward roll and minimal backend. Now I generate my own backend and just need help controlling the breakpoint. Live and learn.
