NEON MINI REVIEW
« on: November 12, 2006, 02:44:57 PM »
I finally got a chance to throw it in a local house tourney this weekend. Drilled her up Friday night and threw it on Saturday morning prior to the tourney on a fresh house shot. Drilled 3 3/4 x 4 1/4 pin even with ring.
Nice and clean through the heads, good midlane roll, at about 38' she began to move in the lighter buff, then left with a hard turn. Threw about 10 balls after getting loose with about a 3-4 board margin of error, (THS). Took it to the other end and began the first day of team with it, threw it 3 full games moving left after each game to chase the oil line, if I got it to far right too soon she was threw the nose, 678 for the first three games. 2 unconverted (big) splits in first game 1st and 10th frames for 214, Game two: one open 10th frame again, pocket 7-10, operator error, way to wide and no hand 225. 3rd game finally a clean one,239 Moves quite similar to the ZR I have drilled 4 x 75*, only much stronger at the break, the Zr seems lazy at the break the closer it gets to the pin deck the more it seems to move where the Neon moves more like the 357 on the dry.

Day 2:
The Neon out of the bag did not have the same reaction as on Saturday, the oil seemed to be heavier than the previous day, could have been the lanes were oiled in a cooler enviroment this morning than in the afternoon after the house had time to warm up, the Neon did not seem to move and would not finish playing the same line as the day before, moved a few boards right still my carry was suffering, managed a 216 with one open, washout. Game two I went to the TL same layout and had a clean 215 and clean 233 for 664.

Singles we moved one pair I went back to the Neon, changed the release putting more turn on it, ball picked it up a notch finished 668, 214 one open, errant tug, no hold 4,7 10 split. Game 2, 3-2 move left clean 223 final game clean 231.

I just could not string a bunch of strikes either day, I'd double pocket 7, double pocket 4, I managed a 5 bagger once in two days, just could not carry the big one when I needed it to get me rolling towards big game and set.

All in all I was pleased with my game considering I've thrown less quality shots and scored higher than this weekend, the Neon is a cross between the ZR and the skid snappy motion of the Energy I have drilled 5 x 5 IMO. I'm getting a track flare of 4-5", corners harder than the Zr but not as hard as the Energy, thinking I might have to get another and drill it the same as my Energy. Great looking piece, had several ask what I was throwing, after the day was over I had two come by the shop wanting to order one, Ying can I start selling them now???? LOL I think I know that answer without asking.

So, was the reaction like a...well, skid-rolling-snap?

When you've moved up, moved back, adjusted left and right, cupped, flattened out, have thrown everyting in your arsenal, and the pins still don't cooperate, just say, "Aw to HELL with it!", and throw the ball!

not quite a true snap, more of a very hard hook. If I would have stacked the pin and cg I'm sure it would have been more of a snap, mostly due to my game, put the same ball in a crankers hand and yes, skid (blink) left the building looking for Elvis.
