New Ball Help Please! Need Comparison
« on: December 10, 2005, 01:47:48 AM »
I’ve read the reviews on Hammer’s “The Real Deal”, Ebonite’s XXXcel, Dynothane’s “Centrifugal Mass”, Morich’s “Total Shock & Awe”, and others.  They all sound impressive to say the least.

I’m wanting a ball for medium to heavy oil, mostly a heavy oil house shot about 40’ length.

I’m a high track, Stroker/Tweener, medium revs, medium ball speed (15-16.5mph) bowler about 215-220 avg. and improving (I’ve been back to bowling for a little over a year).

My present arsenal consists of an Columbia Aftershock (’95 vintage), a red 3D Superhook Hammer, and a Columbia Big Bully; the Aftershock is drilled for a strong backend, but I like a quicker-revving ball; the Big Bully is drilled more for control and it revs early – not much of a backend though; I’ve stopped using the 3D Superhook – I should have bought the violet! – it’s close to a label-drill.

Can any of you guys recommend a strong backend ball that is low RG/quick revving and has experience with a couple of the newer balls mentioned above; compare them please if you can.  I want a ball/layout that’ll read the midlane and still have a strong/very strong backend.  Something that’ll give me confidence that it will recover!

Which ball; what layout?

Thanks!!!
Dave

Thanks for the reply!

Yeah, I was surprised by BTM's review in regards to Morich's Shock & Awe's length.  I'm not a brain surgeon when it comes to ball specs, but I didn't know how a ball that reads the lane so soon would be able to finish so strongly, especially with the amount of hand I presently use in my release (I'm working on my lower body strength - lunges, leg press, etc - so that I can get into a better leverage position again).

I'll take a look at the Seek & Destroy.

Thanks for the suggestion.

BTM has the StrikeZone listed as a mid-price ball; I like its specs, but hadn't given it much thought; low RG, strong backend, differential, and total hook ratings.  I'll be looking at it.

Thanks!
Dave

Anybody able to compare it to "Seek & Destroy", "Shock & Awe", "The Real Deal, XXXcel, Centrifugal Mass, others...?

Since this is the Dyno Forum, I will speak up for the CM.  The Seek and Destroy, no matter how you slice it, is a Morich partical ball.  It will require more maintance than any other balls mentioned.  Having had a WMB, I can attest to that.  The CM being Solid/Pearl, is easier to maintain and will be better on more conditions.  Mine is layed out Cap in Control position, Pin Below Ring, 4 inches form PAP.  Mine revs up in the moidlane and never stops.   However, I am a low track bowler.  Go to the Dyno website to get more drilling info.  You are probably looking for a drilling with the Cap in the Strong, or Direct Position, with the Pin in Placement #2.  PM me if you want any more info.

BTM never reviewed the Shock and Awe.

To which ball are you referring?

BTM reviewed the Total Shock & Awe August 2005.  That's the ball I was referring to...
