Best Ebonite Ball to handle carrydown
« on: November 08, 2005, 06:29:28 AM »
Considering "The One" or "Xcel" from Ebonite.  Also considering the "Vendetta", "Centrifucal Mass", "Vendetta Sniper" or "The Thing Lives" from Dynothane.

Any experiience with any of these carrying the (*^$% ten pin with cary down conditions would be appreciated.

I don't know about the dynothane stuff.  The xcel pearl (I'm guessing thats what you mean by xcel) is long and strong, but I have heard many negative things about it.  Those that got it in my house either got rid of it for being too over under or it died on them quickly.  Not knowing these bowlers ball care habits I cannot put too much stress on the second issue, but I have seen examples of the prior.
The One is currently my favorite ball.  It combines control and hit unlike anything out there.  I cannot count how many times I complained about my early, smooth, readable vertigo having sub par carry, or my snappy, hard hitting, total shock and awe being too unpredictable.  The One combines the positive features of each ball.
To address the way that the one handles the carrydown is to say nothing.  It treats carry down like it isn't there.  The first day I threw it, I was bowling on lanes that had oil on top of oil from the previous condition.  Essentially, the lane stripper had malfunctioned creating a lane condition that was treacherous for carry.  Weak tens were innumerable for all other balls in my bag.  The one beat the condition.

carry down with an ebonite would have to be either the Xcel particle, XXcel particle, or teh Big Time particle. No way would The One work being that it would skid too much before its snap. For the dynothane stuff, with the Vendetta (i think u mean the red/black polished one) that would be a no no on the cary down. And since the Sniper is too poilished i would also not recomend it. The Thing Lives wouldnt be a bad option, but from what ive seen, a High Energy would be a great option as well as the Anamolmy. Bit if i had to choose one ball, it would be either the XXcel or the High Energy

Don't know about the sniper, but i think its real close to the Vendetta PP.  This is a great ball at a great price.

the one works terrific....provided you alter the surface....

take it below 1000 and remove factory polish....then bring back to 1000 wet/sand....spectacular results...even thru carry-down....

Thanks you all for taking the time to reply.
Right now, the shot STARTS with carry down, but you can still carry corners if you control the ball speed.  Getting into the second game, leaving ten pins begins to be a common occurrence, and by the time you are finishing the last 4- 5 frames of the third game an accepted reality.  This is true for everyone, regardless of bowling style.  Currently averaging 225, with a typical set going 245/230/190 - just can't carry the third game (reminds me a lot of the old days throwing plastic, leaving ten pins and four pins every other shot).
I believe I'll try "The One"- I'll let everyone know how it works out.
Thanks again
