Cyclone...Is this as good a ball as I'm reading into ?!
« on: May 05, 2012, 11:27:06 AM »
So I been outta bowling for a few years and asint been in a bowling center in 4 years..lol, I use to be a big poster on here around the 2005-2007 era.

I'm looking to dust off my 300 rings and get back into a summer league then go back full force next winter.

Having said that, I was just browsing BSP and came across the Cyclone. Anit I reading this wrong or is the cover that was on "The One" for $79.99 ?! Wheres the catch here at ?

I'm bowling summer league in a house I shot 718 with a Tornado along time ago (they don't like oil in the summer :)) I believe my stats are in my profile from when I was here a long time ago.

Thanks in Advance guys  :)

The "catch" is that the companies are flooding the market constantly with "new" balls with new coverstocks. Even though this was the premium cover only a few years ago, it has fallen to the "entry level", and is indeed the cover from the ONE.

Also has a decent core in it. Been looking at them myself.

Yes it is that good I have two right now in the bag at all times one is pin up over ring at 2000 with factory finish polish. And the other is pin down under the bridge with those two ball most house shot r easy.

Simply put....

Yes it is!!!  The ball is a lot stronger then a lot of people want to give it credit for.  I bought one and liked it a lot but was too strong for what i needed and it didn't see as much use as I wanted to but gave it to a teammate and he is lighting it up with that ball.

I'm not trying to hijack the thread, but is the Cyclone a pearl or solid?

Not that it makes a huge difference OOB, but if surface adjustments were made, this bit of information would be helpful.

There a few of each
the black/gold is pearl

the explanation i was given by a reliable source said that they are all "pearl-like" until you adjust the surface, then you can absolutely tell the difference

Have to disagree with the above. The Cyclones are solid GB10.7 coverstocks. Ebonite has had a problem with pearl coloring in their balls leading people to think there peal when they are not. Ebonite has also been adding pearl to alot of their recent releases to add to the confusion. Always check the Ebonite site "ratings matrix", if it states pearl in the veener grit level box(1st) it's a pearl. If not it's a solid.

P.S. Tremendous ball for league play. High end coverstocks of the past at "bang for the buck" cost today. How can you go wrong. You might have to adjust the coverstock depending on the conditions you bowl on. Ebonite's factory polished balls don't work for everyone.

I have two.One pin up at box finish, and the other pin down at 4000 grit w/o polish. I can't think of a better combo for the average house shot! Tremendous bang for the buck.

All the Cyclones I have seen have been very midlane revvy balls with rounded backend.

I believe I had heard that Ron Mohr won some or at least one big tourney on the Senior Tour with a cyclone.

In my opinion very revvy, very rounded and a great control ball for medium league shots.

Not only did Ron Mohr win the 2011 Senior US Open using a Cyclone, but Leanne Hulsenberg won the 2011 Women's US Open with a Cyclone.

Yup, very good ball, not entry level as most would understand the term.
If i recall correctly, the difference with the one is that the cyclone has a weaker core.

As lefty, noted, very good midlane roll, and solid finish.  does seem to be a tad sensitive with oil carry.

It says light to medium
It is stronger than I thought
depends on layout and surface

Thanks Dave, I ordered one today. I told my driller I would like a 3-4" pin and put the pin over the bridge with a 4 1/2" to 5" pin to PAP, or is that gonna be to weak?

I want it for the 3rd game in league when the lanes are starting to go!! also, I will be swinging the ball at that time probably standing 32 and throwing over 15/14 board.
