Starting Top Weight:  3.5

DRILL PATTERN
3 3/8” pin with MB stacked.  Weight hole on VAL below axis. Pin is beside the ring finger.

The GB12.7 cover finished at 500/1000 and polished with Powerhouse Factory Finish Polish provides me with a very versatile piece of equipment for medium oil lane conditions.  Higher rev rates will also find this ball useful on longer patterns.  The use of a strong drill helps me get the ball revving early while the polish helps it get through the fronts.  It has a strong hockey stick motion off the break point that lets me play down and in comfortably or move in and send it out to the friction.  Hitting power is strong from both angles.  It may be a little too strong off the spot on fresh sport shots, but would be an excellent choice once the lanes transition and you have to move left.

Not sure why I bother. Not like anyone reads this chaff any more.

It is part of my obligation to Ebonite to post ball reviews.  Those of us on the regional/amateur staff get one ball, in addition not all of us work in pro shops or full time in the bowling business, so, it's not necessarily feasible to review a ball using multiple drill patterns and/or surfaces. I certainly won't alter a ball that I like and find useful just for a ball review. I try to explain how they work for me as best as I can based on my experience with the ball and that of others I see throw it.

I don't know of to many bowlers who could afford to buy 2 or 3 balls just to do ball reviews with several different layouts and or finishes. The thing that I don't like is videos of balls and all they show are the strikes they make, now you know perfectly well that they surely don't strike with every ball. Now I will say that Tamer Bowling does show the bad shots or off shots at the end of their videos.

Non staff reviews are exempt ​from this. Notice the popularity of Motiv ball reviews. Doug and Justin both use more than one layout and showcase them against the other products in the line. That one extra ball to a staffer might mean 10 or more regular sales in pro shops or online.

If you won't alter a ball's surface, or try an alternate drilling or use it on verious oil patterns, or compare it to 2 or 3 other balls, then posting a "review" is pointless and useless, except in so far as it meets your technical, contractual obligation to Ebonite. As has been said so many times before here on ballreviews, 99 out of 100 "staff" review are worthless .

We can agree to disagree.  I do my best to provide an objective description of how the ball reacts for me and where I believe it will be useful.  While it may not have value for some people, it may have value for others.  I'll relay your criticism to EBI so they are aware of it.  Maybe it will help to provide improved reviews in the future.

No disrespect, but you keep your staff position by saying what they want you to say. Try speaking badly about the next new piece and see if you get renewed next year. You're "paid" to pimp their product, and if you don't, you get scolded or axed. #thecostoffreebowlingballs

didn't have time to read all the banter but just wanted to give my thoughts on the ball...220+ avg in all houses I bowl multiple honor scores (only bowl once a week with no practice, 2 kids killed my bowling life)...hated the ball when I first got it so didn't throw it much, started bringing it out a few weeks back and the ball is money.  Real smooth then really strong off the spot...has forgiveness too!  Miss out and it'll recover, miss in and it will hold to a point but I'd rather miss out than in. Also have a code black and prefer the mission unknown.  I'm a storm/roto guy with about 50 NIB balls and bought the unknowns on the hopes to get a red or gold and flip for a profit...needless to say I drilled this one up and have 4 sitting NIB and you can't give them away...but now that I've been throwing it more...I really like it!  Reads the mids way better than by code black and is stronger overall for me.  Haven't adjusted the surface at all but have to say i'm pleasantly surprised with it.  Shot 288 two weeks ago and 813 last Monday.  1101 my last 4 games with it.  Wasn't impressed to start, but it is definitely growing on me.  Just my two cents and that's about as much as my advice is worth

One other thing that deserves mention.  No ball review can beat throwing a piece for yourself to see how it matches up to your game.  EBI conducts Demo Days all over the country.  Attend one in your area and see the performance of all the current EBI equipment first hand.  Chances are you'll end up adding a ball to your arsenal.
