Ebonite's/Hammer's polished finish?
« on: February 10, 2010, 03:49:10 AM »
We know now that many of the new balls with a "4000 grit Abralon" finish are actually finished with P500 grit pad, then a P4000 grit pad, NOT the standard full treatment of P500/P1000/P2000/P4000 grit sequence.

Noting that many of Ebonite's and Hammer's polished balls are listed as "4000 grit Abralon" + polish, I'm sure we have all assumed that they had been sanded P500/P1000/P2000/P4000 grit + polish. Now I am wondering we made yet another false assumption.

Are all the Vibes, LaneBreaker, Playmaker and other balls listed as "4000 grit Abralon + polish" really "P500/P4000 grit sanded + polish" ?

Does anyone know for sure?
Right now I don't have any of those types of balls to test the theory in person.

When EBI finishes a ball, they are run on four powerhouse resurface machines for about a minute on each machine. Now they are listing all four grits at each station.

If a polished ball is not 500,1000,2000,4000 it will say so on the add slicks.
They really want shops to be able to recreate the same finishing processes used at the factory. That does not mean you shouldn''t experiment with 500/2000
or 500/4000 finishes. Some of the balls come so polished from the factory, they need to be hit with a pad and shined back up on the spinner.

Hope that answers your question.

Pretty close. The balls are put on 4 PowerHouse resurface/finish machines.

Yes, but before the current add slicks, were previous 4000 grit polish balls at 500/4000 or the normal 500 up to 4000 process before polishing is what I think Charles is trying to get too.

The original Jigsaw was the first 5/4 finish.
All 4000 finished balls were done 500, 1000, 2000. 4000
then either polished or not.
The balls are all done with Ebonite''s PowerHouse machines
for. If a ball is finished with less than 4000, it is stll
done on 4 machines.

Thank you. That is what I was interested in.
I suspected one or more might be 500, 4000 then polish.
